I am starting the petition for a PA system for the raffle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, let’s get rid of CB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just use the 2W midland handheld frs/gmrs radios. use the frs channels. CBs are straight garbage.I'm all for getting rid of CB. Very few had their CBs setup correctly last year. Maybe there could be an SWR check at registration? But, there is simply no other better option for the majority of attendees. GMRS is significantly better. But, I can't imagine every attendee paying the $75 license fee for the GMRS. However, I wonder if there could be a "group discount" on said licensing? Probably not as it's a governmental agency, but would be cool if all 100 registrants could get a 10 year license for like $50. HAM requires a test that most people don't feel like taking. In any case, CB seems to be the best/most economical option.

not for frs. I have a cobra 75 CB hooked up to a magnet antenna I keep in the back and slap on top when needed, so no big deal either way.Does that require the $75 fee to use and test?
I've used CB's a lot for trails in the past. Maybe a instructional course on how to properly set up a CB could be useful
Now that the annual cb conversation has started, @paflytyer , time for the annual response.........![]()
Just updated my frn and paid fee, just in case. $70 CB is dialed in as well.I would like to offer my response.....Stuff it. All of you.
Nah, Chris and I actually talked about it tonight. We're in a tough spot. CB's are inexpensive and easy to load/unload if it's not something you want permanently installed. There are attendees with SWR meters at every event. It shouldn't be that hard to have a working CB. Check it and get it working properly prior to leaving. If it doesn't work, throw it away and buy a small kit on amazon with a mag mount antenna. It takes two minutes to connect a few wires and plug it in to your 12v outlet. Done.
I'd be up for GMRS though, but requiring everyone to buy a new radio and register for their license seems a little un-HIH like. We're considering it.
The small and low-powered handheld radios just don't work well enough. We had a pair for car to car stuff and they were spotty at best.
This happened to me last year. Tuned perfectly at home but apparently something happened in the 2000 miles in between south Georgia and Silverton. No matter what I couldn't get things right once I got there. It was really a downerI’ve watched videos, read articles and everything with CBs. Sometimes you have everything setup correctly and you get it all tuned at home only for it to act like it’s the Twilight Zone when get there. FRS is my vote, maybe trail leaders should have the FRS license and other people can piggy back off that license for the trail?
