You can do both. Stick one of the later years 120 or 130 in instead of the 80 that came on the 2000.

Well i think my alternator is going. Was out today and after getting back in the truck and starting it i noticed a slight whine when i stepped on the accelerator. Also noticed that my volt meter was under 14 volts when before it was right at 14 and when i would give it gas i notice the needle on the volt gauge move accordingly. I’ll have to take s multimeter and test to make sure

Bearings don't usually whine, but belts do. I'd check there first.

It is common for dr belt and its pulley bearing to squeal when failing.
Alternators too, will often squeal even in earlier stage of failure. Many parts store will check alternator for free.

I did look at the belly yesterday and they appear to be ok. Maybe whining isn’ta god description of the sound. My wife heard it as well and thought it was power steering that humming noise

When i looked though the old receipts from the PO i didn’t see any records of having a replacement alternator so this might be the original one. Truck currently has a little over 180k miles

My alternator had a squeeling/whine sound before failure. If you disconnect the alternator plug (or maybe at battery/fuse), restart the engine and the noise stops, I'd suspect the alternator's voltage regulators/diodes.

It’s the alternator. At startup it reads 14 volts but after things settles down it drops to 12.7 volts. And you can hear it when i give it a little gas.

I recently replaced my 2000 LC alternator with the 130A version. I get a little more voltage when the vehicle is cold and it settles a little lower than I'm used to compared to other Toyotas in the lower 13's. All my hundys have exhibited this. Anyone know how this works? Today it went down to 13.1 on the ScanGauge II. Wondering if a larger charge cable would help some. I'm used to my Toyotas running between 13.7-14.1
