Sliders and skids have saved me so many times. When your bouncing and hopping over large(r) rocks and you come crashing down and hit, it’s so much better not having to think about what pan you just punched.
Most definitely good peace of mind. Puts me at ease.

Would a aluminum skid plate like SLEE that uses all of the factory mounting points and has internal bracing fared better on the rocks?
IMO, probably. But aluminum is not made for rocks. It deforms easier, catches easier on rocks.

Edit: Steel>aluminum>stock>none, also. Even though aluminum deforms, it will still protect your vehicle, and as long as it’s not resting against the vital guts of the vehicle... then who cares! It will deform and be more high clearance...

WOW! What a great event. Big thanks to all the attendees and sponsors for making the first Cruisers on the Rocks a huge success. The vision for COTR was all about giving 100s and 200s an event all their own while building community and lifelong friendships. Im happy to say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! From Beers and stories around the pavilion at night, and kids making s'mores over the fire, to scenic laid back rides all the way to "moderately difficult"😬 rides where 8 out of 10 trucks took damage, I don't think we could ask for anything more!

Cruisers on the Rocks II "The Deuce" is happening October 20-23 2022. Mark your calendars! I promise you it will be epic!!!

I did…but I was the first to go on everything behind a double cased Tacoma. SOME people had the obvious advantage of seeing multiple trucks go over everything! 👀
.
I didn't see s*** from a half a mile back!

Except the inside of my eyelids a few times 😆

BTW...In that one pic where I'm holding onto Zach's truck...I was not trying to to keep it from going anywhere. I was trying to get to somewhere I could see him to talk to him! LOL

I'm doing everything I can to make the next one. Looks like it was a good time.

no trail repairs? Did anyone have to trailer a broken truck home?

You and me both. I was supposed to be at this one. But, life dealt massive swift quick to the nuts. So, next year. See ya then!

Thank you-

I am in my 70's now and my passion over the last 55 years has been rebuilding and racing all types of machines. Of all the machines I have restored-these are the ones having the hardest time letting go of.

I just love working on all kinds of machines and interacting with other gearheads who are into the same. I always had to have a project to keep happy. Playing straight-ahead jazz-- with a motor on the stand for rebuilding has always been a way to keep my head straight.

I do not understand pure collectors or collecting because I am not built that way.

This forum is a breath of fresh air-- owners actually using and wrenching their trucks like we all used to do-- and sharing how to do it.

Old School
Were you at this event? If so I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you. I'd love to buy you a beer and hear some of your stories. I bet you've got some really good ones.

So uhhhhh….anyone have a drivers side mirror assembly laying around they want to send me? I’ve already broken the JB Weld fix trying to fix mine. UGH
