Made it 225000 miles on original transmission and now it’s completely done. Apparently these are hard to find. Anyone have any suggestions where to look besides eBay? Thanks

try posting a wanted thread here in the classifieds:

there are good used out there
location would help for shipping

What exactly happened? If internal componenets/gears/planetary etc., are good then you can rebuild with bearings/clutch packs and seals. If internals are gone like my 2000 at 245K miles (due to OD bearing failure) I had to completely rebuild the transmission at a transmission shop. Just be aware, not all trans shops will accept foreign transmission rebuilds. After the rebuild, install an inline transmission filter to catch any debris that are now coming lose that were originally trapped inside the cooler.

Thanks. Yeah internals are bad. If can’t locate then will look at rebuild. Was crazy that didn’t have warning that it was about to go.

Agreed, if a random shop told you that your transmission is bad., get a 2nd opinion. its extremely rare for the 100 series transmission to fail unless it was run low on fluid or abused through towing, etc.

So I was enquiring about transmissions (Used vs Rebuild). I do suggest a second opinion. If you deem it is needing replacement then here are a couple places that have very high marks with rebuilds.

Legacy Transmissions in Hayward California - Cruiser Brothers told me that Salim is the messiah of the A343F transmission.

Level 10 Transmission - Hardyston NJ

Good luck!

I’ll look at them thank you!

car-part.com usually has listings for parts

I could not find a shop in my town/county of 500K people that had the time or interest to rebuild mine. They can't get parts, they don't have the expertise, and they are too busy with the junk made by the Big 3 automakers. If you find a shop that claims they can rebuild it, ask them how many they have done and what warranty you might get. I had zero faith in all that I talked to about rebuilds - AAMCO should be embarrassed by the shop here. One shop quoted me $3300 for a reman trans, and another was $7K, plus labor. These were 'remans' sold through transmission distributors.

I installed a used transmission in my '00 4Runner and it has worked great. This used transmission had 100K miles, and had sat on a shelf for 17 years (!) at a junkyard, which I didn't know until I bought it and ran the Carfax (I got the VIN with the transmission). Anyway, it shifts like a new transmission and was a relatively economical choice. My daughter has put 30K? on it without issues.

^ If you do Math, 17 years on a shelf. We are in 2024 that's 24 years from 2000: it has done 130K miles for the 7 years, which comes to 18500 miles a year : 1541 miles a month.
