2003 lx470

Hey, Was given an 03 LX470 that's cranking and not starting. I was told that it was an ECM/ECU problem, but I don't think the owner has the original ECM/ECU. Could I just buy one and do the 4/13 pin bypass or is it more nuanced than that. Thank you!
