I had the same problem with what should have been a straight swap in (skyjacker soft ride springs) Skyjacker said at the time they never heard of that and it was my problem...I know of 9 others with the same issue from skyjacker. The easy fix I put in longer shackels, some others move the shackel hanger back.

Turn the rear hanger around like they do for the 55 spring swap.
Not a big deal, a few hours with a cold chisel, grinder, and a few bolts....
PMK

that was fun, ask me how I know  I think I would rather get a root canal.

if I were to do it again, I think I would buy a new hanger and torch the old ones off. be ready for some fun with a 4" if you want to reuse your old ones....

It's tough, but not that big a deal. 10 minutes with a chisel per rivit, Maybe?
Try a bigger hammer.

my problem was not enough tool

I did it with a jenky craftsman drill for the rivits, and used a 4 inch grinder for the welds. it took me about an hour per side. an air chisel would be great and made it a lot easier. i fawked it up when I grinded the stitch welds and when it was rewelded on, it came out at a 5* angle. we were finished before we realized what happened.

i guess in retrospect, I would rather torch it off then grind the leftovers and use a new one.

x2

They have a new kind of cutoff wheel that fits in the 4.5" grinders that makes this job a LOT easier.;)

Why not just use a longer shackle? It will allow for better droop because there will be more material for additional "swinging" of the shackle. I wish I had a good picture of my 6 1/2" eye to eye shackles extended when flexed out. A shorter shackle would not allow me to flex as much.

BTW I use FJ55 springs SOA with the shackle mount in the stock position.

i measured last night and thats what i came up with 6-6 1/2"

but i was also think'n that a 6.5" shackle would effect my approach/departure angle.

but i definitly agree on the "swinging" effect. and i think thats prolly what i'll do....

again, thanx guys

Longer shackles are fun and all and do provide for more flex, but can also invert, and damge springs.... ;)

good point....

but a lower bump stop would take care of the inverting spring, right

invert..negative arch?
or pulling inside the hangers?

They also allow more side to side movement.
When I was SU, all that movement made steering vague and somtimes scarry.....
Now that it is SO, I use stock length shackles and the rig flexes great.

It is a good point, with my 5.5" shackles when my front end is in a bind, the steering pushes the axle around a bit(I guess actully axle pushes vehical, all the same action reaction), but I havn't noticed it on the street at all. IMO 6.5" shackle would be too long, 5.5" is pushing it.

You mounted your shackle hanger in the wrong place ;)
