I just put new seats in my 71 bronco. They were $79.99 off ebay with $150.00 shipping. so for under $250 I got a great set of seats, in the color combination i wanted. If $250 is okay look up racing seats on EBAY. If thats too much I have heard that the Volvo seats are what a lot of people are putting in. You can even wire in the heated seats.
 
I just put some Volvo seats in. They are from a 740, heated and leather. They are a little narrower than the originals, but comfy. You can make the original seat brackets work or fab some new ones. I had the seats left over from a parts car that I used to fix up my wife's 88 740. A word of caution if using these seats, don't take apart the tracks to clean them. Loose ball bearings everywhere. :D
 
I did the same as PUPTLAM, searched on e-Bay and found a brand new pair for under $250 in the small width I need and color I wanted. Even though it did not give any information on manufacturer, the seats turned out to be BRIDE seats. I haven't installed them yet, sorry no pics with the cruiser.
 
A buddy of mine needed new seats so we just went to the junk yard and got some. Pick and pull here charges $25.00 for any bucket seat. Then I bought a $69 bender at harbor freight and built a seat cradle for them.

We looked for something that mounted level on all 4 sides and took it home. the seats were out of a 2002 hundai and they still had the new seat smell.

Wow.. being new to ih8mud, I'm amazed at the great replies to my question! Regarding the Volvo 740 seat brackets what did it entail in making them work? I'm brand new to all this and am not set up for fabrication yet.
 
Cheap Seats

If you are willing to do some fab work you can use almost anything. These are from a '91 Nissan. Got them at the pick and pull for $20/ea.

However; if I had it to do over again I would have tried to find something with mounts at the same level on all four corners. My .02....

Just did a search for Volvo seats and read through all posts on seats. Some good info, but there was only one picture of Volvo seats from a distance. Does anyone have Volvo seats in a '75 to '79 FJ40? I would love to see some pics!! If you could also post a measurement between the seats or what width console you are using. Thanks very much
 
I just put seats from a bmw 325is in my 83 fj60. 2 pieces of angle iron from home depot and a 3/8 drill bit were all that were needed to make things work. Not too hard of a job for someone w/ hand tools and patience. Seats were 25 ea @ a yard near philadelphia. look for an 84 - 91 325 bmw.
 
My Volvo seats are in a 73. I used a piece of 2 inch square tubing for the rear of the driver seat. The pass seat was a piece of 2 inch with a piece of 1 inch welded on top. I made the 2 inch pieces long enough to use the original mounting holes and place the mounting blocks closer together. The Volvo seats are a bit narrower. In the front I used the original seat brackets. I had to drill new mounting holes for the seats

Didn't mean to raise a dead thread, but Pick and Pull (at least around CA) has seats for 5.99 this week. I picked up the exact same seats (but tan) in perfect shape for 14.23 after tax. :) Thanks for the info on these. After I redo the inside, these will make a difference.
