Ok, we have a plan.
I will be going up Friday midday and hope to be there by 3pm. Lets try and camp at Big Oak cove. It is about 1 mile west of the state line (end of paved road) there is a big sign there and prepared camping spots. It runs around $8 per night per site with a limit of 2 vehicles per site. I am guessing there are 10-12 sites in there, maybe as few as 8. First come first serve. It is just before or just after the river depending on your direction of travel; on your right or, on your left.
Please respect the rules at the campground. I believe it is 2 vehicles per site and 2 tents per site. Chances are we will not see many rangers but they will enforce the rules and we always need to make a good impression.
If you arrive late or the campsite is full there is primative camping all along the river in both directions or nicer camping at State line. State line campground has the same rules as Big Oak Cove.
Both areas have toilets, picknic tables, trash cans gravel pads etc.... Primitive camping is just that but free!
Our group will try to get there early and reserve a few sites. I doubt there will be much competition. We plan to have one eating/fire site with a big tarp empire and then a few campsites around that. I will be happy to reserve/pay for your site when I get there but you must mail me NOT PM!
If you want to try and convoy up with us or anyone else MAIL me and I will send addys around to everyone.
Joe, Brent, Randall and myself will provide dinners for everyone fri, sat and sun. We need to know who will be there each night. We can handle up to 30 people. Bring plates, bowles, knives etc....If you dont eat meat then you should not own a cruiser so dont come. Please kick in a few bucks to help with the cost. Lunch is on you. Our group will bunch up for breakfast and I suggest other groups do so also. If you are comming alone just show up with some food and you will be fine.
Bring firewood. Bring as much as you can possibly carry then put some on the roof. Since we are doing food we want all of you to bring wood. Do not expect to find wood up there.
This is not a hardcore trip; but it can be if you want it to be. Chances are the weather will be so bad an easy trail will be hard. Have no worries with stock trucks. There are easy trails to go on or cool FS roads.
Very little cel service up there but there is a payphone in Green cove that should be working. I doubt there will be any gas either. Fuel up prior to getting into the woods; bring cans if ya got them.
If the plan goes to hell for any reason or if you are lost or just a tard. Leave a note on the sign in board just across the stateline on the start of trail one and/or leave a note on the privy at state line. I will leave directions if we need to camp in another area for any reason. Big Oak cove is first choice, if closed then state line, if closed then North river which is west of Green cove then north up hill; hence the name. There are signs for all of these areas. We will all be on channel 5 CB.
If you own it and it is warm bring it. If you own it and it is waterproof bring it. Expects temps from 50' and sunny to 33' and raining to 25' and snowing to 05' and windy.
I will bring the big ass army tent with the stove. I will not be setting it up but the loyal boys from MS have volunteered to do it. At least 10 people can sleep in it but remember the crevat above about trucks in the campsites. IE: If you are a wimp and need a heated tent we will have some room but you will still need to pay and park your truck in another site to abide by the rules; all are welcome. The stove EATS wood. if you plan to use the warmth plan on splitting wood! Bailey!
Bring lots of beer and booze. My mail is
tardwrangler@urbanlandcruisers.com Hope to see all of you there.
