Club ride to Caney Fork AKA Cullowhee the first weekend in November.
As it looks now, the bulk of the group is going up Friday just after lunch.

Tentatively, we'll meet at the rest area just west of Winston-Salem on I-40 (near Mocksville) at 1pm on Friday.
We'll meet again at the wal-mart parking lot in Sylva, NC around 4:30-5pm (TBD)....but we'll get some last minute supplies there so it should give some late stragglers time to catch up.
We'll be using the personal hand held radios this time, and I'll send out an update with channel info next week.
Make sure you pack the basic tools and supplies and check the weather for clothing issues. It could be cold at night (we hope!).
Updated itinerary to follow. If you have any questions, let me know.

So far we have:
Greg - Friday
Juan- Friday
Barry- Friday lunch
Ryan- Friday lunch
David- Friday lunch
Justin- Friday lunch
Richard- Friday 3pm from winston
Todd- Friday 3pm from winston
Dane Friday lunch

Moving into our new house, wedding anniversary, and dog's birthday ;) mean I'm a no-go. Can't believe I'm missing both Cullowhee rides. Have a blast out there and enjoy it, it is an amazing place!

WHOS IN FROM CENTRAL NC?!? HELP NEEDED getting a cruiser back to greensboro fom Sylva NC!!!!!!!!!!!

I just returned from this area all in one piece which is more than can be said for the cruiser. The clutch on the 55 went out and i am trying to devise plans for getting it back to the greesboro NC area. IF anyone has got any ideas or materials or ability to help in anyway please chime in. i may start a thread as well but wanted to get the attention of those going up this weekend.

Thanks in advance

Jason

( i can get a ride up sunday pm to help w/ driving or trailering the rig home )

Damn Jason....What happened??

I could not make it with the UC I got really sick (Cold) on thursday....Man I got a tow dolly if you need it. I have pulled a piggie from Asheville with my 100. If I go on this trip I will be riding with Greg. I am still not sure if I am going to be able to go.. Man I hate this happened to you. I wish I could have been there to help you. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

What actually went out on the clutch? Slave cylinder or the disk itself? If it's just a slave cylinder, just replace it and bleed it right there...no big deal. I should have a spare clutch slave if that's what it is.

Have fun! This is a truly great set of trails and campsites. Presume you guys are staying up on one of the balds? Hopefully next time we can join you... Is there any truth to the rumors that they are installing gates and looking to close this area?

Here's a pic from one of the balds...about a month ago on our initial (post-restoration) trail ride / camping trip:

as to the rumors.... no gates were installed or shut this time around and we did not see the trail closure signs on either side of the trail system per the rover forum.

as to the pig.... the slave cylinder looked fine and it still had fluid, adjustment bolt had not backed out. It just quit holding the gears. it changes and moves through the pattern fine, with the inspection plate off you can see the linkage working and the center disc engaging as the clutch is depressed. Thinking it might be the pressure plate at this point. as it slips it moves into a knocking noise coinciding w/ the rpm levels, but as i spun the flywheel i did not see anything grossly out of place, no bolts backing out etc. I am pretty sure i got a diesel and trailer lined up for tomorrow. thanks for the offers and ideas. Worldcruiser--if something falls through w/ the trailer i might have to hit you up for the dolly offer. Ill be in a wedding in raleigh fri/sat or i would have tried to get a mechanic to fix on site and gone back wheelin w/ you guys.

thanks again

colors should be at peak for you guys, especially after the cold front this past week. enjoy!

I hated to hear about your troubles Jason.

Cool video. Prolly don't wanna hear it right now, but that is one badass 55.

Wish I could make it, I hope everyone has a great time.

The weather looks like it is going to be perfect.

you guys are gonna need to be prompt and get outta sylva w/out much delay if your going up caney that evening. the walmart is every bit of an hour and a half from the bald by way of caney fork. You can save some time by going moses now that it is gravel all the way to the top. Weather was awesome yesterday in sylva!!!!! its gonna be a good one for you guys. those leaving from winstonat 3pm should know there way up to the bald as it will be dark by the time of your arrival.

piggy is home safe, thanks and i might have found a donor

glad you guys had a good trip........ I believe I passed you guys on your way out Moses Creek Sunday afternoon. I was in a chevy avalanche :o followed by my fiance in her red 80 series....... sorry I didn't stop and chat put I figured you guys would pay any attention to a guy in a chevy

JP, I remember passing you and thinking thats very odd an 80 series is on this same road. I was in the red 80 that passed you followed by the 40.

man wish I had stopped you guys....... sweet 80 by the way; after you went past i told my fiance that is how her 80 is going to look before long :grinpimp:

Wheeling with a trailer is interesting....that's one heavy pig of a trailer! I really don't like backing up with the trailer at all....and it's bouncy, so it makes you go much slower on the trail than you normally would. It sure was nice to haul all the gear in with though. Of course, after seeing how much dead wood was all over the area, there was no need to bring firewood in of our own.

Yes, hardtop was a good idea. Some of those trails are ridiculously tight and would have torn my new soft top to shreds. Thankfully, my hardtop needed paint anyway.....
