Well it's with a heavy heart I've decided to sell my 40. The wife and I just had a baby. The 40 has been parked in the garage since then. It’s been started on a regular basis. I fought off selling it once before, but I think the time has come to make the hard decision to sell her. She needs a home where someone will drive her. It’s been a great cruiser and runs great. The only thing she would need is some body work. I am sure I'll have another 40 later down the road, but for now this is the right thing to do.

Details below:
1979 Toyota Landcruiser FJ 40 4x4
4.2 Liter inline 6 Cyl 135 HP
4 spd manual transmission
Color: Alpine white
4 wheel disc brake conversion
6 point roll cage...slightly bent towards the passenger side from the rollover. Hard top will not fit properly like it sits, but the bikini top I run fits great.
OME shocks
Hell For Stout front bumper
5 33 x 9.50 BFG all terrains on stock wheels
4 32 x 10.50 Super Swampers TSL radials on black rock crawler wheels (2 tires like new, 2 tires approx 50%)
Diamond plate tailgate
New starter, muffler and NC inspection
Includes soft top, bikini top, and full hard top and doors
Also have a lot of extra parts, Fenders, brake drums, Pintle hook hitch, partial tub for a trailer buildup
$3,500 firm

The cruiser was rolled by the PO. I replaced the hood, windshield frame, glass and wiper motor. There is some rust on the truck, but it runs perfect. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It’s been through every trail at Uwharrie and didn’t have a bit of trouble. If you have any questions, just shoot me a PM and I'll gladly answer the best I can. I would like to sell it as quickly as possible. The longer it sits here, the more time I have to talk myself out of it. This will have to be pickup only due to the amount of extra parts that are included.

*note* the nose guard and stinger do not come with the sale.

thanks. I hate to see it go. I would rather someone else enjoy it, than have it sit at the house being rarely used. This thing runs like a top. I don't hesitate to take it on I-40 and I even pass people from time to time. :D

must....resist....

I already thought about it and started typing up a PM - I'll try to work on the wife tonight. Do you have any better pics of the rust? I'm battling rust on a 55 right now and have just about had enough! :grinpimp:

See Jim,
I've already prepped it for life in South Beach. You should see the attention I get with that sticker when I go home to Blacksburg.

Not to mention it already has some UC stickers on the kick vents

I'll try to keep the updated pics here as well, but feel free to check the main post as well.

I thought you said Taylor wanted a 40!!!! :grinpimp:

I'm pretty sure Taylor does want one... but there's only one way to find out... a surprise present! And it would be a real shame to put all those skills you've learned on the piggy to waste...

So, when's the "Taylor gets a 40" Party!!!

Come on E, sell one of the mustangs instead:D I hate to see you sell it, but I cant think of a better reason for selling one. If I had the extra money right now I'd be all over it. I've rode in this truck and can honestly tell you that it runs like a champ, a very strong 40.

I've seen this 40 in action and it performed as advertised. It went up Daniel like a stroll in the park.

Hate to see you decide to sell Eric but family is WAY more important than anything else in life, no contest.

There will always be old cruisers for sale, good on ya for having priorities!

x2. I've got the Miata sold, and I've got a real-life devil on one shoulder, angel on the other dilemma. Either talk wife into your 40(which is exactly what I've been looking for) in hopes I get to drive it sometimes (doubtful) or pay down debt on home and her car(more likely)... Why must life be so cruel...

erymer, sorry to hear this. I feel your frustration and pain, that's for sure...

I don't know whether to tell you good luck on the sale, or good luck trying to figure out a way to keep it. Either way, good luck.

well guys it's been a tough decision. I've been kicking this around for a couple months. Stacy has been the one trying to convince me to keep it. But we both realize that at this point in time, it is the right thing to do. I just don't want to see a great running 40 just sitting in the backyard with a tarp on her. She deserves better. And I appreciate all the kind words everyone. She will surely be missed, but I have no doubt that a few years down the road there will be another 40 in the family. Hell, maybe I'll go back out to Washington and bring the John Deere one back.

Steve-you would like this one. it already has the bikini on and it has a radio. :D

Heather- this would be one helluva surprise party.

Gang I cannot stress enough that the only thing she needs is some body work. there are no, none, nada, zip mechanical issues with her. Last summer we drove her about every day 15 miles each way on I-40 to work. I've been contacted by two people in the north, but I/we would really love to see her stay local. That way we can see her from time to time. Did I mention it comes with two free UC stickers. :grinpimp:

You people are evil! But it would be a helluva suprise...hmmmmm. Oh what am I babbling about. I just spent a zillion dollars on a suspension for the pig. I wish I could Eric, believe me.

no problem at all. I can't wait to see how the pig looks when you get done with it.

Man, that is so tempting...
Being in the middle of a LOOOONG term FJ40 project that I've never even driven, a running driving 40 is tempting.

Must resist. Good looking 40. Hopefully it will find a good home if you can't keep it somehow.

Thanks to everyone saying kind words about our cruiser... This has been very hard for both Eric and I.. We love this Cruiser and we have had a TON of FUN with her. We don't want to let her go.. But what would be worse is for her to sit in the back yard and not be driven... We hope to find the perfect home for her where she will be loved just as much as she is loved now.

Again we hate to sell the only Cruiser we have but it isn't fair to her to sit and waste away...
