I have wanted to do this for awhile and really wanted to do it before I installed my sliders, and I like the result. I am comtimplating doing the rear quarters because I plan to cut them one, but who know when that will happen. One thing I did learn from the project is let the coats set up more between coats than it suggests on the package. It says to wait 1-2 hours inbetween, but I found that after an hour and a half the first coat was still 'wet' and wasn't ready for another layer. Could have been me though. I considered spraying it on with a texture gun, but I was happy applying it with a roller and would do it again in the future. Other than that here are the pics. . .

WOW, it really works w/the black rims. fer sure do the rockers...

how much herc. did you use?

maybe a quart. . .

what I am thinking is making the cut around the corner following the tailgate line and herculining the small area bellow the body line to match the front. I thought about continuing up the front fenders and wrapping around the lower front valence, and still may, but decided against it for now.
Right now I gotta get my sliders welded up!!

Looks great, I would continue it to the rear quarters if it were mine to keep the lines going. Nice work.

Got some closer photos of these? I keep thinking about doing it to the back bed of my grandfather's truck, but I'm kinda holding out for LineX.

I dig it! I did my entire 4runner a while back and it turned out great; accept for the color. "Big Bird Yellow", for lack of better description. I never quite felt the same about that rig afterwards.

It's all about the 3rd coat!!

So I was kinda bored and it was starting to get dark and I thought, Hey why not go work on the cruiser some more. I had about four or five hours between the second and third, and I can say that it layed down WAY nicer the second after the first. It really added a lot of consistancy and I like it more now and looks a lot cleaner. If you are planning to use herculiner I would highly recommend at least three hours between coats and definetley a final third coat!

Now I'm off to pull tape . . .

Looks good Dylan. My vote would be to definitely do the rear quarter as well. Told you the first coat would look awful! I was a bit worried until I started laying on the second. I agree three coats is just right.

What kind of sliders are you getting? Any quarter protection? Good luck pulling that tape. It can be a bear to get off sometimes.

Tell me about it, I was really nervous after the first coat, and I thought I had suddenly realized why Line-x is so expensive.

Looks very good...hum...might have to do that.

Thanks Mark,

Do it!

blue 60s are so bad ass :D

I agree!

Aw, but we all know that the ladies dig the white FJ's...:grinpimp:
When you get the time, could you post up some close-ups?
Any good place in particular to get this stuff, and is there any other quality (similiar) products?

Lots of debates about Hippo Liner, Line-X, Herculiner (I got mine at Pep Boys), Rhino Liner, etc. The professional ones can customize the color, and the outcome can be really good. But, for cost-effectiveness, Herculiner is great, just do it right. And, don't get any on your hootus!
