There is a link to a Aux tank company called "The Long Ranger".

http://www.thelongranger.com.au/100serieslongrangefueltank.html

"TR62" 122 litre gas/ 55 litre water combo tank is what I would like to order.

However they do not respond to my e mail request because I am from USA?

It seems that the only path to get those items is thru group buy? Any suggestion?

Regards,

I`ve been interested in the LR combo tank for some time, if the price/availabilty is right I`d be interested in a possible group buy .

Let me know what you find out, I imagine there are others like me that would like the extended range and maybe have a L/R tank on their list of " future purchases "

Talk to Seth at PV Cruisers, he brought over a batch of tanks last year for a bunch of us. He has containers coming in from Australia on a semi-regular basis. seth@pvcruisers.com

That's a sweet tank.

Mobi-Arc, when you ordered your aux tank, where did you source your sending unit, fuel gauge, transfer pump and filler neck. I know you used an OEM subtank switch. Which fuel gauge did you use? Or did you use the existing gauge and have a toggle for main/sub?

Hey Les, on the aus 100, the wiring and everything is in place for the sub tank, I would bet that if you have a good look with a torch you will find a SUB fuel indicator next to your fuel gauge that is not connected/illuminated. The Sub fuel switch plugs direct into the harness, whether or not the wires in your vehicle have been allocated for something we don't get, I don't know. The same gauge is used and the sub switch flicks it over, I don't know if it goes thru the ECU or not, or just the sender. I nearly purchased a sub tank the other day to get this stuff for one of you guys, it went for $50! I will keep my eye out.

There are two ways to set it up: simple and complex. I went simple so the aux tank is configured like a big jerry can. When I hit the sub-tank switch, it turns on a timer relay which is set for 10 minutes. Relay turns on the transfer pump which transfers fuel from the aux to the main. After 10 min, it automatically shuts off. While fuel is transfering, I have an Red blinking LED on the guage clust bevel which lets me know that fuel is being transfered. I also wired an interrupt button to kill the transfer if needed. The fuel gauge reads the primary tank only so I keep a mental note of how much I have in the aux. The dual filler neck came from SOR and the transfer pump was a pulse pump that my mechanic used on a racing Porsche and no longer needed. There was some minor fabrication needed for securing transfer tubing to the tank, and the hose sizes designed for the inlets and outlets aren't common here. I was able to get hose at an industrial marine supply, but had to have a "joint" machined on a lathe that allows the connection of two different sized hoses. It's a project, but so far, no problems and no fuel leaks....knoch wood.

The more complex method is to employ and changover system where you hit a button, and everything switches over to the aux tank: input, output, overflow, and fuel guage. This is how the OEM units with aux tank work, but this requires more braindamage. As long as you don't forget how much is in your aux tank, the simple method works great....for me anyway.

100TD and Mobi, thanks for the info. I was mainly asking questions for those who are contemplating going with this set-up. I'm happy with my LRA aux tank but I like the idea of having a changeover system that employs the OEM fuel gauge and switches.

For reliability, having both tanks separately feed the fuel rail is the best. You can puncture one tank and still fully run on the other.

That said, I'm going the simple transfer route on mine (even though it's an OEM sub-tank), because I'd like to actually get it installed in this decade...

If I read their website correctly this tank replaces your original tank so no transfer pump would be needed. Anyway I might be interested in one if the price was good as I plan to get a 100 series in the near future and this is a mod I want to do.

Corbet, this particular tank is a replacement for the OEM auxiliary tank. I know the wording isn't clear but I'm sure of it.

Hoser, I forgot you had a tank already, Corbet, yes this is definitely a replacement tank for the "factory original Auxilliary tank" or sub tank which is fitted in OZ and other markets.

The Aux gas/water tank (Model TR-62) is replacing where the spare tire used to be.

Since this web site is not clear on whether it is just simply add on capacity tank (like mobi-arc) or comes with completed set of gas tank with it's own gas pump and gas meter (just like what I4C 4L0 have, seen in this photo).

I will pursue this Aux gas/water tank further for more details and pricing since some of you are interesting. I will posted as soon as I get the feedback from this manufacture.

Cheers,

Have you seen Boston Mangler's Long Ranger tank write-up on his 80? His came aux tank only and he needed to source the rest of the system. Also, I believe Long Ranger makes aux tanks for ARB. Maybe a resourceful ARB dealer can get one for you.

mobi-arc,

When you transfer fuel, can you do that "on the fly" or do you risk creating overpressure in the primary fuel tank, transfering w/o opening the ful filler cap?

I do it on the fly....but I've also done it when parked. The first time, I drove until the truck started to stutter on fumes before hitting the transfer button. This way, I could figure out how much fuel transfers in a specific period of time before the relay turns off. It pumps a little less than a a quarter tank per transfer. I've never had an overpressure outgas issue. When I fill, I get the normal de-pressurization I used to get pre-tank installation. Just so you know, I didn't install this myself. When it comes to moving fuel around, I didn't want to risk a rookie mistake and die in a ball of flames so I had my mechanic do it and I helped with getting all the parts and pieces necessary to make the job as smooth as possible. He says I need a second tank like I need a third nut.....and of course he's right, but it's pretty sweet having all that range. It's ugly when you do a complete fill-up.

We got the same tank, but his was for an 80. The tank came as just the tank and no accessories. The manufacturer assumes all hardware and tubing are already in place as these are designed to replace the OEM aux. tank. Of course, our trucks don't come plumbed for the aux. so we have the pleasure of battling through the installation. I have to say, the tanks we got are first-class quality. The tech support on the aussie side is utterly worthless so if you get a tank, don't expect too much help....at least that was my experience.

Finally, I got a response from OOT4WD gas/water aux tank maker in AU.

The TR62 122l combo tank would cost you $1646.00 AUD each. The
freight cost vary a great deal so you may want to look at that yourself.
There is most probably a six week wait on supply. Regards David.

$1646.00AUD = $1,393.42 USD
