I will be going from the PHX valley to Moab UT in early October (have made th trip twice before without issues but never solo with the FJ40) - IF the cruiser should need to be towed somewhere (not really expecting trouble but who knows?), does anyone have recommendations for trustworthy shops along the way?

Thanks in advance, Claudia

I don't know of any places past Flag...sorry. There are plenty of places to get your dream catcher fixed if you need a new one.
I broke down in Page a few years back...needed a alternator for a 90 4Runner. I got to the Checker, Auto Zone, Napa...what ever it was and they said "if it ain't American, we doesn't carry it." I ended up renting a Uhaul and trailering my rig back to PHX...that trip almost cost me my:princess:
I will be heading up to Moab the night of the 5th or the day of the 6th if you want to caravan. I will be there through the following week and my plans are flexible. I tool the entire week off. Just thinking of it makes me want to say a prayer of thanksgiving...

Don't know of any shops, heck, there aren't even that many towns... Anyway, Woody maintains a Cruiser Assistance Club (CAC) list with names and numbers of those willing to help all over the country. Need to join to get the names. Might PM him for the details, and see if there's any cruiserheads along the route.

edit: more info here

I am on that list - you can always give a call if you get stuck - I like to travel :D

also Kurt from Cruiser outfitters is from up that way and should have more info for you

Rob and I will be going up on the 4th if you want to caravan. Have a strap in the unlikely event that a tow is needed.

I am afraid I am too slow for you guys - this is going uphill all the way :frown:

also, I'll probably have to stop by Dave Gore's in Miami on the way, and that would add a night-over somewhere (going through Salt River Canyon should be mucho scenic, though, haven't been there in like 10 years)

just exploring options, no decision made yet.........

hell, I don't even know whether the cruiser is going to start up ;)

:bounce: :bounce: great to hear you will be coming - I can't wait to see the K5 guys' faces.......;p :bounce: :bounce:

Mexican Hat sounds good to me; I am also checking into "Valley of the Gods B&B" (have some difficulty getting them on the phone), their location is super scenic, too

White Rim is 120 miles, no way I could do this in less than 3 days (it is supposed to be so beautiful that anything shorter would be mutilation). I read someone drove it all in a day in an 80, but the leaf springs on the 40 are not that conducive to fast travel on unpaved trails ;p :D

White rim is only 70 miles...I did it on bikes a few years ago in three days. It could have been done in two. A lot of the trail is soft sand...perfect for avoiding that jarring feeling in your back. It is worth the trip...I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I was told that our camp site needed to move due to K5 guys moving in so we may be close.

yes, we will be staying in the Motel 6 right next to Slickrock

I broke down in Rock Point, AZ pulling my Toyota on a dual axle trailer with a POS Chevy Suburban. Parts are hard to get since there's NOTHING around even for American trucks.

Any chance you could sign up for AAA? I think it's $50 a year and they'll tow you to their nearest approved shop. It's not the greatest option, but it's better than nothing. Might do just as well to make friends with someone who's got a truck and trailer JIC something goes wrong (as long as they're willing to come get cha).

Sorry this wasn't much help.

I forget the name of the place...It's the one you hate with all the trees on the back of the property. PM me and let me know your plans. Brian wants to bug out on Tuesday and I may want to stay longer.

This may not happen - our meet'n greet was moved to the Old City Park south of town...
