Are you going to fab up a custom skid plate to tie into the crossmember bar? How much space will there be between the radiator & water pump fan? It looks like you'll have to fab up a deep shroud or push the radiator back.

One step at a time, we have to fit an AC condensor up front, so we left some room there, don't know about the skid plate yet, this truck may never be off pavement so not that critical. We may even modify a stock plate and bolt it up.

Not too much visibible progress, we did do the 3.73 diff swap, mounted fuel pump, got all the drives mounted up front and belt, installed the ford fan, late 80's 3.8 T Bird 17" 7 blad reverse rotation.........maybe start it this weekend... :D

damn...that looks awesome. too bad brimmer finally came and got his 4.3 outta my garage...it woulda been sweet in my 45 ;)

Throttle cable

Here are the components you will need, throttle cable 88 C1500 350 PU, LC pedal and an old GM pedal.....I used an older cable type LC pedal, but you can use the type that goes thru the firewall, just cut it and weld the GM end on......the GM has a plastic grommet that snaps into the hole, you could fabricate the hole and slot but this is easy. :D :D

Next position the pedal and mark where you need the hole for the cable, it is a rectangular hole, I drill 4 1/8" holes at the corners then a 1/2" in the center, using a die grinder I connect the dots........first pic is the engine side, other 2 are under the dash

First pic shows the cable snapped into the firewall....then the engine connection, don't get smart and try and find one without the loop, it don't work well......don't ask how I know.......last one is all hooked up under the dash.....

Radiator Positioning

We were looking at the radiator positioning, first pic is in the stock mounts, we have to install an AC condensor so we mounted the engine farther back than normal for this, next 2 pics show the radiator back 1.5" and down 1" fits the shroud perfect and gives us plenty of room up front for whatever we need........we were pondering whether or not a stock new LC radiator will cool this beast with AC and auto.......we have room in the budget for a Be Cool...... :D

that radiator worked fine for mine, but I didnt have an auto.
ran a 180 thermostat and an electric fan.

There are few things, for me anyway that bring such a thrill as turning the ignition key over, hearing the fuel pump power up, and bumping the starter, bringing a combo like this one to life for the first time............spent some timie positioning the radiator and fabbing up some brackets, dropped it 1" and towards the pass. side 1"
SOB purrs like a kitten and all the sensors read normal.......

Got lots of housekeeping to do on the harness, it will be all enclosed in plastic tubing and routed like the factory, and I don't think hanging the computer off the mirror would work long.....

Mvc-010f.webp

Rear driveshaft angle length 18.5"
and the fuel pump, we will fab a shield to go under the pump.
backed it out of the shop and back in today under power....

Thanks Butch!

Hey Butch,

Lance here. I just joined the forum to check out the pics you were telling me about. Man, I can't wait to see what a difference the faster gears in the diffs will make. Looks awesome!

Will be well worth the wait!

Call me when she's ready, I got a couple cases of Shiner chilling with your name on 'em. (How much should I bring for everyone else?)

Anyway, thanks for the update.

Lance, you should bring a BUNCH of Shiner and make sure you come meet us all this week's LSLC meeting. You don't have to have your rig ready to come out and meet the gang.

Butch, great seeing you today. This rig is tits. I would LOVE to own it. I love the swap you are doing. Very clean.

The T350, 3.70s and pizza cutter 33" BFGs will make for a sweet highway ride.

Lance, autos rule and you are going to FREAK when you drive it.

 to Butch and Josh. Great job guys.

3 row radiator works well on the road but when you do 150-200km in no bottom sand to get to your fishing spot go for a 6 row stagerd core the cost is minimal
Let me guess, you are from OZ? :D
Doubtful this rig ever gets in deep bottom sand to get to a fishing spot......
here in Tex the most severe it will see is rush hour on Central 105 temp and the AC going....... :D

Welcome Lance, great forum and great people here, everyone is Jonesing for a ride in your truck.........

Found a couple of hours to work on it, mounted the Hayden plate-type Trans cooler and firmed up the radiator mounting.

Skid plate fabrication...?

Hey Butch and Josh,

just looking at the pictures is making the hair on my arms stand up.

Can you give me a figure on fabricating a skid plate and your thoughts (Or just buying one...I just figured it might be easier to cut one out). I am planning on doing a lot of highway driving, but I don't think I could resist playing off road.

Thanks

Lance
