Got the relays mounted and the ECM set in the glove box, we fabbed a bracket, and fastened all them up, we have the fuel pump, EST, MAP and fuses on here.... :D :grinpimp: :flamingo:

youre probably already privy to this, but you might want to ask the owner to make sure the cowel doesnt leak into there like mine did. Got the computer wet durring the winter.

So, you relocate the sensors off the engine and onto a firewall? I think painless does that with their harness for the TBI. I would like to get all that 'stuff' off the TBI in my 55. I will look into that, after Rubithon.

Bill this is a Painless harness, my usual supplier was going on vacation and could not get one to me as soon as I needed, actually they are on the underside of the glove box.....inside the truck :D the only relays/sensors this harness leaves out under the hood are the ones that can't be moved......

Who is the vendor on the fuel pump? I am trying to find the best 14psi TBI pump I can.

Carter is the brand I use, 'cause it's got a lifetime warranty, part number P74028.

Butch,
Is that MAP sensor mounted with the vac hose coming out of the top? A GM tech at the Warren Tech Center told me they must be mounted with the vacuum hose down. The condesation will build up on the vacuum sensing membrane and frezze overnight, damaging the membrane. The hose should be mounted so that condensation will run away from the MAP.

Could be BS, but why chance it?

I just re-read and it looks like you said they are mounted to the underside of the glove box. Does that mean the pic is upside down and the vac hose is right?

Moisture? Water turns to vapor in a vacuum, and will be routed out thru the source, in this case the engine......never heard of this, but it in the OEM bracket and can be unsnapped and flipped.........
When we evacuate AC systems, we connect a vacuum pump, and it makes the water vaporize and comes out of the lines.....I have never paid any attention to how I mount them, and to my knowledge have never had one fail.......but I'll flip it over.

hey Butch,

I was wondering what are all the year models of the parts that make up this engine?

example: we are using '87 Monte Carlo exhaust manifolds, right?

The reason I am asking is for replacement parts I might need in the future.

anyway, Thanks it's looking awesome.

Lance when you take delivery of the truck you will get a list, of everything that is unique, so any parts guy can help you.
Dang near every engine/computer component is 1995 GM 4.3 Pickup though......and they are easier to find than the Land Cruiser stuff........

hey Butch,

Dustin mentioned that he had water leak into his ECM. I never had any leakage into the glove box on my '75, so what are your thoughts?

my tub sucks pretty much. I need to caulk the tub where the cowel meets the windshield frame mount part of the tub. Also make sure your windshield gasket - the one between the tub and the windshield frame, is in decent shape.

For your ecm, if you were worried, you can put it in a tupperware container or something like that. pretty much everyone I know running a computer has theirs in the glove. its about the only place you can put it unfortunately, unless you put it under the seat or something. But that would be a pain and could get more water to it.

Anyway, I wasnt trying to stir a pot, just letting you know to kep an eye on it is all.

This is a great thread, great work Butch. I will be doing a 2003 vortec 4.3 into my '65 fj-45 one of these days, so lots of great info here.
I'm debating whether to locate my motor so a V8 would be a direct swap if I yearn for more power later. Would those monte carlo manifolds work or would they hit the firewall that far back?
Is the flexplate for that 4.3/th350 setup the same as for a 350 sbc?
Do you think an electric fan(s) would keep it cool, in the interest of gaining a tiny bit more power without the mechanical fan?
How do you like the FI Specialties harness? I've talked to them a few times in search of the motor I have now, and figure I'll let them do my harness and pcm work.
Keep up the good work.

thanks,
David

Thanks, the V8 would work in the same location we are using here, be a dang easy swap in fact....the LH manifold would cause problems moved any farther back, besides the rear driveshaft is perfect here...flexplate the same as long as we are talking post '88 FI motors
Personal choice, mech clutch fan over electric every time......
FI Specialties rocks....no difference in theirs and the Painless as far as quality, but it is nice to have a guy on the other end should ya' need him.

In case anyone is wondering why no progress reports, Vintage Air backordered the condensor and drier, supposed to ship Monday after a 2 week delay kinda got the project on hold til it arrives......

Only ones that leak are rusty POS' (Dustin) :D ........your's ain't.
No worries.

I got the under dash portion of the Vintage Air unit installed, some of the control cables and duct work are a MF to deal with.........took around 6 hrs..........
 :D
Also visible is the Lokar shifter, the neutral safety switch and where we patched the floorboard where the old shifter was.

OK, other than a few glitch's it's done, I'll use it for a DD for a week or so and make sure there are no bugs and it's ready to deliver......SOB feels as strong on the street as a mild 350 pulls way stronger than any 2F I've ever driven........AC freezes ya' once it cools off the inside......so here's the final set of pix...... :flipoff2:
finished engine compartment......lots of room ...
