That looks sweet Butch - I would love to have that sort of set-up in my rig. Can you put me on your waiting list? SERIOUSLY. By the way, what sort of transmission is that?

I really ought to give some props to Butch Lewis may he rest in peace, he was doing 4.3 swaps since I have had internet access, he actually sent me pix of some of his back in '98........

Thats just kick azz Texican, I wish I could do work like that. Thanks for the pics. :flamingo:

All it takes is a lot of planning, attention to the details, and keeping the objective in mind.........it also helps a bunch that the crew helping also understand the objective, and are willing to take the extra time to do the work right and pay attention to the details...my son pointed out to me late Friday that the MC and the radiator overflow just look nasty in there next to the rest of the stuff, so we'll take them off and tidy them up before it gets out of the shop...... :grinpimp:

Butch was the man indeed. He did a ton of 4.3 swaps. His beautiful red Cruiser had a tbi'd 4.3 in it too. Said it came from a truck Robin Williams had once owned. :grinpimp: He inspired me to do mine, and helped me figure out the many details. Butch did really nice work. Must have something to do with the name "Butch".

I got a chance to drive this thing today. What a sweet ride. Plenty of power and very smooth. That a/c just flat out kicks ass. Pictures just do not do this rig justice. Everything about this Cruiser just seems to fit. Lance I hope you bring it to a meeting. Everyone needs a chance to drool over this.

Hey Butch,
Been following this along mainly for the AC since I already have an SBC.....Looks like the Vintage air is THE way to go. Quick question, did you insulate the firewall, floor and ??? I've heard that it helps..Any truth to this rumor??

Thanks man.

Thanks man.

No extra insulation done on the rig, it has the OEM tar stuff and the factory mat.........IMHO it really needs tinting on the windows, the sun is brutal with all the glass.......

Good idea...I think tinting is a DIY possibility........Thanks for the reply! Cheers!

Update, this is for all you DIY, that dream of opening a shop, or think sh** never happens to some of us "pros" The trans lost hi gear last Sat, it seemed as if it had a mind of it's own, worked great at times and other times it just was not there.......I don't build auto's, I'm convinced they work via black magic.......the guy that does mine has been doing them for 15 yrs, never had one of his give problems.....we tried every on the car fix last week and Thurs decided it had to come out. so I pulled it, Harold is working this weekend to get it fixed so I can get it back in........

On the good side if there is one, everything we built under the truck, works perfect, the trans came out easier than stock, and should go back in just as easy.....On a conversion, when doing a job like this, if you don't need the flaming hacksaw, or a sawzall, it's done right....... :D :D

Got the new transmission installed and dialed in, Lance is coming to get his "new" truck this evening......
Butch

What are you going to drive now? Maybe you need a Pig to do a spring over on.

Great build, looking real clean, my preferance has always been the smaller 6.

I hate that feeling of despair as something out of your control happens, makes me run for the beer fridge evertime.

I think I smell a good write up for the tech section, could of used it in trails but your secret is out.

The air conditioning unit in cab looks bigger than what I use to see from Vintage, did they add the section under the steering wheel???

First full day of driving...

I picked up the truck from Butch last night. It runs like a top. Butch and I were both concerned about the Vintage Air, but it's well worth it. It's nice and cold. The install looks like it came out of the factory that way - very clean. Butch, Josh and crew paid a lot of attention to detail. It runs great on the highway. I had it up to 70 and it still had plenty of power and lots of gas pedal left. Today I kept it at about 60-65 and it felt pretty good. It's hard not to search for the clutch pedal with my left foot when I get in, the auto is sweet.

There are others here who know Butch and would agree when I say that I highly recommend him. He's a good guy who knows what he's doing. I will bring it up to Thursday's meeting for closer examination.

Butch, thanks again, it turned out exactly how I was hoping.
