I have the e-barke cable installed, but for some reason the cable is like 6-inches too long? Not sure how that worked out, but I just need to spend some time looking at it and figuring it out.

The ebrake can be sourced from 93-97. I believe it is all the same. I just used the same ebrake from my 94 that I rolled. Not hard to install.

That "what's next " list is crazy! Have fun!

Hey OG 91!

I'm going to try to get out there, but I am pedaling with a friend at the OC Gran Fondo.

I'm going to try to make it over to the AOE BBQ later in the day as the TLC group is going from Cars&Coffee over there.

If I don't make it out to either place, hopfully some Cruisers will start going to Cars & Coffee on the regular and we can meet up out there.

Rodney. Your truck looks amazing!!!!!!! Wow!!!! Great job on all that work. Hope to see it in person. Maybe at cars and coffee this weekend.

Longer at the e-brake or axle? I personally didn't compare the 2 cables. I just unbolted the 2 nuts from the e-brake(marked the nuts with pen paint before taking them off) from inside the cab. Then went under the truck and unbolted the 4 bolts from the upper/lower control arms. Unbolt the LSPV from the axle side. Last was to unbolt the brakeline and 12mm bolt that holds the e-brake cable to the frame.

Dropped the entire axle and rolled it under my 91. Installed everything in reverse. 30 min by myself and fit like a glove. Hope it works out for you

My '92 ADV80 made it onto the TJM FaceBook page as I stopped in to visit with TJM North America last week.

Thanks for posting the image of my rig!

TJM North America went out and bought a 1992 80-Series days later and started their own thread. This is going to be a fund build to watch! They are preparing their TJM80 to show at the Off-Road EXPO this weekend in Pomona, Ca.

And now I have a another 3FE slow lane friend!!!

Check them out:

I was in the mindset that I was just going to buy a factory used manifold to send out to have ceramic coated fist so I would not have a ton of down time with the rig. It's my daily ride.

Is there a link for the headers you are looking at??? TPI stopped selling theirs

E-brake cable too long...

8172870980_e86008b486_z.jpg

I have no idea why my E-brake cable is so extra long? After doing the FF rear axle swap [post #227], seems the cable I got is for a longer wheelbase 80?
Regardless I needed to take up some slack. Near my home here in Costa Mesa, next to Newport Beach, located on Newport Blvd is a boat salvage place that has all kinds of cool stuff. I find a lot of stainless bolts and stuff there. So I went digging and found this block that will hold the slack until I figure this whole mess out.

PS: this is with the cable tightened all the way at the E-brake handle too!

8172871548_56c8792174_z.jpg

Added this little item too.

I tested the E-brake and it does activate, just all the way at the end of the E-Brake handle as it is standing almost straight up and at the end of the handles sweep cycle.

My youngest daughter actually hanging out with me under the truck! RARITY these days!

Dad, why is our truck so crusty under here?

Just how related is the automotive industry and the radio controlled industry? According to these names - VERY RELATED!

The best thing would be to send that 2nd manifold to a header shop there in Socal and tell them to make a set of shorties that bolt up in the same places as the manifolds. that way it is bolt on and you still have next to no down time.

But then I have to deal with smog?
I could send the manifold out to have extrude honed... I forgot about doing that... hmm!

Today was a good day!

My other passion from the ADV80 is dirt bikes and today I am taking out my daughters to Wildomar OHV Park to get in a little riding.

I actually found the 'Mud forum from the good folks at ADVrider.com as I had a couple of bikes going on over there prior to having the Land Cruiser. That forum is super awesome for those who are not the hard freestyle types to supercross race types as ADVrider.com is all about the ADVENTURE of motorcycles. So when I got the Land Cruiser, I wanted a forum for the four wheels that was as much like ADVrider.com as possible. They pointed me to 'MUD!

Why the dual bike hauler instead of a trailer? I live in a townhome and do not have a place or want to deal with a place to park a trailer.

So, today was a good day!!!

Dirt biking with my daughters at Wildomar OHV Park as that is the closest place to dirt from my house. It's good prep for desert riding and the season is upon us!

Its been all play and NO WORK on the ADV80!!! Sorry it's been a while since I have last posted!

My daughter has been loving the riding and I can not deny her riding especially during her time off from weekends softball and now rugby. We spent Turkey Day weekend in the desert with friends and the ADV80 was just transportation to and from the desert to go riding.

Another day for the ADV80 getting used and abused with now play...
8300418671_3a119532ea_z.jpg

You see three dirt bikes here... My daughter's friend rides too and her dad was not able to make it out and we all wanted to ride bad!

So how do you load three bikes up in the ADV80 when the rack only holds two?
8300416621_78d3c22ba2_z.jpg

Stuff one inside!

Good thing my daughter and I are riding little Honda XR100's! I am having much fun with the little bikes.. and I have an Honda XR400 & ATK 605. No reason to spray my daughter with large rocks and the again, the little bikes are just plain FUN!

TIRE ROTATION TIME!!! Use that spare in the rotation!

Ok, time to do a little work on the ADV80.

It's tire rotation time!

8332784176_cd0dd4f3f1_z.jpg

How many of us actually use the fifth tire or spare tire to extend the life of the four tires being used? Tired of having an odd freshy? Or one that is the new, but is now a leftover from the other four, that is if you are switching tread patterns...

My buddy Randall Davis, co-worker at Axial and RD Adventures blogger showed me his five tire rotational pattern to put that spare tire into rotational use and extend the overall miles!!!

8332787116_50c53a9e1a_z.jpg

I'm a little behind on doing my rotation as these tires went on at 211,817 miles
on Sept 1, 2012 putting me 1,800 and change over my desired 3,000 mile mark.

I plan on rotating these tires every three thousand miles so with 216,635 miles now on the clock, 219,600 miles next target rotation. Simple math really...

Now for the fun part:
8331726321_55aeb338f3_z.jpg

Limited funds means more work with budget tools, like with the factory jacks VS. a nice big shop style floor jack. Dare you say a cheapo Harbor Freight one. I hate to spend money on cheap tools and I will usually go without only to make more work for myself! But rotate we must!

The barrel jack on the right is from my Land Cruiser and the scissor jack is from the wife vehicle. With the 34" Falken Wild Peaks, I needed some wood to get the jacks off the ground enough to lift the tires off enough so I could rotate them. Going to have to add this wood into my daily hauled EDC kit! Could use for emergency fire if it cracks... hehehe

8332786434_071cd48aba_z.jpg

8332783856_c1793e4f8b_z.jpg

Yes, I give the wood some thought about it cracking... I lifted the front first and use the two heavy duty jack stands as this side of the vehicle is the heaviest.
Friends... My buddy has my two other stands! I need to go get those from him!

8331729209_01c0ba2fc1_z.jpg

Still running the full size 34" spare in the rear cargo area as it does not fit in the underneath stock location and I have yet sorted my rear bumper / tire hauler.

8332786768_829e666aa0_z.jpg

I measure just how tall my rig sits now on the 34" tires with 4" TJM lift springs. Seven foot one inch to the top of the rack.

8332919656_ede4f6c88b_z.jpg

And the ADV80 is off to work as a photo stand for daughters science project...

Are you still happy with the 35's/4.88 combo?

I'm gonna have to make one of those bike carriers too now. Nice to know i can get one inside. My boy has a KTM 50 so I think that would even fit in the wife's pilot

Bump for an answer to my question...

Hello CTRJ,

Yes I am very happy with the 34" tire size and 4:88 gear combo. BUT, I do have some curiosity if the 4:56 gear ratio would have been better with the low power of the 3FE engine. The 4:88's seem to be the same factory gear ratio but we know how the 3FE engine is rather weak at freeway speed hill accents. SO, I wonder if a scratch lower ratio would be better suited for the 3FE engine. But I do drive slow in the name of fuel conservation. 4:56's might be too low for most people who want to drive 75mph every day. I typically drive 60-65mph every day on these Southern California speedways..

On the dirt side, while wheelin' in Johnson Valley during King of the Hammers the 4:88 Nitro Gear ratio was just fine for the 34" Falken Wild Peaks as I pulled a couple of sand hills that I was rather surprised to pull!
