There has been a bunch of discussion, but little/none posted, time to get it started.

My plan calls for leaving on 4/26, others plan to leave later in the week and meet along the way. Most have seen enough of Mexican Hat, so we are going to start in Blanding.

If we have a smooth trip on Saturday and get up there early, Valley of the Gods, Moki Dugway, etc are available for scenic cruising on the way.

Sunday is open for suggestion, there are a bunch of trails in the area. We ran Arch Canyon last year and would run it again, great trail! Also Hotel Rock, Abajo Mountains (maybe cold, 10K+ feet!), Snow Flat Trail, Mule Canyon, etc, even a trip to Hovenweep National Monument would be cool. Hovenweep National Monument (U.S. National Park Service)

The talk for Monday is starting somewhere along 95, going over the mountains and coming out in the park on 211, then going to Monticello for the night. There are a few ways to do this, depending on the truck mix and weather; From an easy, relatively short run that brings us out near Newspaper rock. Next option is a longer run that starts at Maverick Point, runs Elk Ridge, past Beef Basin and comes out Elephant Hill trail. The most challenging/longest route starts with Hotel Rock, goes though Bluffs Canyon and then connects with Elk Ridge to come out Elephant Hill.

Tuesday is Lockhart Basin, a fantastic trail! The plan is to also run the canyon spur, this will take an early start, not being at the air down spot at 11AM like last year.:o This will be a long day, but well worth it. This trail ends in Moab.

Wednesday is some play on White rim, probably too long to run and enjoy the whole thing in one day. So the plan is to start at one end and run some of the side trails, then come back out.

Thursday on is Cruise Moab!

Made some calls, did some research on lodging. There is plenty of camping, cabin, etc opportunities in the area, but Sue is attending, her rule is there will be s***ter and shower in our lodging!:D So my research was hotel related.

In Blanding for the nights of 4/26&27 I like the Four Corners Inn priced right, has the right stuff , good reviews and available rooms. A review list; Blanding Hotels: Read Blanding Hotel Reviews and Compare Prices - TripAdvisor

Four Corners Inn Tel: 435-678-3257 - 800-574-3150 Web Site: The Four Corners Lodging – Four Corners Inn
Single $45 Two staying $59 plus tax ... Wireless/Continental Breakfast/refrigerator microwave

In Monticello for the night of 4/28 Navajo Trail sounded good on the phone. Last year we stayed at Canyonlands Motor Inn and were not impressed, so looking for something different. Monticello Hotels: Read Monticello Hotel Reviews and Compare Prices - TripAdvisor

Navajo Trail National 9 Motel Tel: 888-449-6463 or (435-)587-2251 Web Site: index

These are both tiny towns, Monticello population is ~2000, so don’t expect a huge selection of entertainment! If some of us decide to stay at the same hotels, maybe we can beat them up for a group discount?

Won't we need to plan do tech inspect Tues (if in Moab early enuff ) or Wed? IIRC that window closes Wed evening before dinner.

Yep, IIRC tech is also open Thursday morning.

Do you all want a map to Poncho's House or the backway to Four corners is always fun. :D
There's always sixteen room ruin you guys can hit up by bluff (live in Montezuma Creek for 11 months).

Good luck on the trip guys.

Sure, more local trail info is always welcome! If you don't want to post them, email to toolsrus at aol dot com.

A cool place to stay in Monticello, probably not worth it for a quick overnight stay.

I can't do tech inspection on Thursday - I wanna do Golden Spike :bounce:

I have to do it either Tuesday night or sometime on Wednesday

due to coolness of trail and leaf springs in the cruiser, I wouldn't want to have to rush through Lockhart :frown:

my idea was that those who are willing to camp could go in Monday and meet up with the rest of the group Tuesday

Michael was warming up to the idea when I suggested yesterday we could maybe sleep in the Blazer....

...working at it ;p :steer:

also, Michael may have a new super-duper camera by then and take 1000s of pictures.......

I am sitting on the fence right now.

I have some work things to get done this month first and then find out how much karma I have left after "reminding" my wife last week that I was going to CM.

I told her in December I was going to sign up.

:D

I want to do Spike also, but don't know if I got picked for yet.:D

Last year we did registration/tech on Wednesday morning, used it as the meet point for that days run, worked well. It's usually not that crowded first thing in the morning, opens at what, 7AM? IIRC Wednesday night is vendor night, we may want to be back for that?

greetings arizonians and baton rougers

can anyone join this prerun? I am going to be heading east from anaheim starting maybe Friday. I'll have two kids, a wife and an m101 trailer with a roof top tent on top and I am looking to take the scenic route to moab...

lockhart sounds really good to me. my only catch is I tried to sign up for elephant hill on thursday so I would definitely need to register early...

of course if I had basically just done elephant hill i guess it wouldn't matter as much...

I have no problem with you guys joining us. No worries we have previous experience with Lockhart and trailers!:hillbilly:

How the hell did he flip it on that little ledge?

i'm guessing it bounced

The ledge was more than it looks like - as is common with photos. But it was little to much skinny pedal to bump up it :bounce:and too much air in the tires and suspension of the trailer. (It was the trailer's maiden voyage.:o)

When are you planning on leaving BC? My plans this year are to leave on April 20th and head to southern Oregon or northern CA and backroad it as much as posible to meet up with everyone. Last year I picked up my trailer just out side of L.A. and went to Tuweep on my way to meet up with them. It was well worth the drive and might make it back into my route.

I'm looking forward to the rematch:hillbilly:. One good thing is I have stopped carrying 5 gallon water containers in the trailer so I wont need to do the wash and spin cycle this year;).

Both my Dad and I are looking forward to seeing everyone again and are planning on meeting up with you with all my nuts:wrench: still attached:beer:
