Update 4/15/14 - the engine sold to a local. So I now have just the new adapter and new flywheel . These are $650 shipped for the pair to the lower 48. These sell for new for $725 + core + shipping each way.

Mercedes 1984 OM617 with New Lukes 4x4 Adapter

I've decided to sell this again. I was going to use this on my pig, but after much thought and conversing with Mrs CruiserYard, we've decided to sell the pig and all of the goodies from my personal stash. This is one of them.

1984 Mercedes OM617 with a brand new Luke's Adapter. Comes with starter and a reman'd alternator as well as a resurfaced flywheel. This is the good engine that you want as it makes more HP than the earlier OM617s. The adapter is brand new.

That is a great motor, had it in my mercedes 300GD. 180hp if I remember. Keep the valves adjusted every 10k and it will run forever.

Hmm... wonder if I could sell my TBI 350 and stick this in. Gawd I'd love to.

What is it about the year (1984) that makes it an issue. Or am I just reading into that statement too much?

Would the existing tank need to be adapted on a 72 pig?
What other parts would need to be sourced for this conversion or is the motor complete for an install? What about motor mounts?

I'm out in California, 95694 so I'm guessing shipping would be in the $500 range?

Very interested, just not sure if I can commit....yet, but greatly appreciate your responses if you have time.

Nope, drained and filled with diesel.

Other than that it looks like the alternator and fan pulley are missing, you'd also need to figure out the intake (stock MB will work, not there in pic). You could run the stock mechanical fan or just do an electric so you don't need to fab a shroud. You'll need to figure out an oil cooler as well. You'll also need Toyota oil pressure and temp senders to work with your gauges.

Good luck!

After talking it over with some cruiserheads, I am gonna keep it and drop it in the Pig as planned.

Good on ya, I'm doing this swap right now. I'm going the NV4500 route right now.

Luke's adapter is the shizzle. Only problem I've had so far is having to install offset dowel pins, but that's hardly his fault.

Don't forget to get the flywheel match balanced.

I updated the first post, but this is for sale again. Read the first post for more info. I am going to Roundup and can bring it if someone want to bring a hoist. Also, for those on the west coast, Georg is coming to Roundup too and can bring this back.

Hey D-

This is for an H series (h41, h42, h55) so it makes it easier for US spec trucks.

side note- I have a gasser H55 (10-spline) that I was going to used with this setup. I might sell the engine and tranny as a package if someone were interested. There is 1 or 2 locals that I am waiting to hear back first on the tranny though.

Thanks J. I knew Luke was making kits for the W series 5 speeds so wasn't sure what you had. That would be sweet with the H55. Good luck with the sale!

Thanks. This is a really good setup for someone

pics added, this is a complete setup ready for a 40, 55, or 60
