    LC100/LX470 Part-Time Conversion Discussion

Every time unless center diff is locked. I will post a video of the CVs rotating and clunking.

    LC100/LX470 Part-Time Conversion Discussion

I have checked everything. Scrapped the drive flanges as they were original and wore out. I can visibly watch the CVs rotate at the spindle and hear the simultaneous clunk when shifting from R to D and D to R. I can't rotate the CVs at all when parked, but I can rotate the tire a bit when...

    LC100/LX470 Part-Time Conversion Discussion

It is important to not that I have not installed the T-case spool yet, so I am driving in factory all time 4WD but with locking hubs instead of flanges. @Dirt J you are Correct. No stress on the front driveline equals no clunk. Mine only clunks in 4 wheel drive with the hubs locked and center...

    The OFFICIAL clunk/thunk driveshaft thread

Not s’bad. I completed the rebuild in January of 2023. I can pull the hubs and take a look at the splines. One banana job.

    LC100/LX470 Part-Time Conversion Discussion

Correct. However I just replaced those bushings, the UCAs, CVs, hubs instead of flanges, etc. I can watch the CVs move and clunk when shifting from R to D. CVs only have 13K miles, so I’m curious if the play may be in the locking hubs and if that is normal.

    LC100/LX470 Part-Time Conversion Discussion

Has anyone else experienced movement in the locking hubs / CVs leading to the infamous clunk post-install?

    The OFFICIAL clunk/thunk driveshaft thread

Yup. Lifted. Planned to wheel hard when I was getting laid off in 21 but got another gig two days later, which postponed my dream overland/wheeling trip. Got some decent rock around Fort Worth though. I went with really beefy aftermarket CVs because they wouldn’t get much use with the...

    The OFFICIAL clunk/thunk driveshaft thread

Turns out I’m an idiot. I had my girl cycle from R to D (parking brake and foot on brake - safety first) while I watched the front end. To my surprise the CVs were moving and clunking. Now, I am not sure if this is a result of the CV splines wearing (they looked great at install 13K miles...

    The OFFICIAL clunk/thunk driveshaft thread

Ok I just conducted a little experiment. I unlocked the front hubs (removing any stress/strain from the front drivetrain) and locked the center differential and the clunk disappeared. I suppose it could be the engine mount or something else. I will say, this is a substantially audible clunk...

    The OFFICIAL clunk/thunk driveshaft thread

Thanks for the reply! I’ve visually inspected the motor mounts and they look good. Lower control arm bushings looked good when I rebuilt the front end (SPC UCAs, extended travel shocks, CVs, Aisin locking hubs, diff bushings, bearings, etc.) around 150K miles (truck has 163K on it now)...

    The OFFICIAL clunk/thunk driveshaft thread

Mudders, I have the classic D-N-R and R-N-D clunk that disappears when I lock the center differential. I have replaced the drive flanges, CVs, and front differential bushings. I have also inspected and greased the driveshafts. I will be opening the transfer case to install a part time 4WD...

    Lose Rear Wing Rivet Nut

10-4. I tried getting a rusted bolt out of a rivet nut and stripped the nut. However, I agree that a quick shock may be able to brake it out if the nut was epoxied. I may try packing some braided fishing line between the rivet nut and body to keep it from spinning.
