RTH: transfer case noise, shims, bearings

I think it is shims which tighten axial play, no? Been a few years since I was in there. What is your set up with exhaust/tires/engine, etc. @SDH? How loud are your gears?

RTH: transfer case noise, shims, bearings

Nope. Took them out. I have heard from guys who have installed them since me who say they are "very quiet" or "not very loud" but when I question them more they always admit they have an aftermarket exhaust or mud terrain tires and they can still hear the gears a little bit. So I think it is...

For those that have imported HDJ's

I agree with @Workhorse. Mine is about to clock 500,000 kms and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I DD all week, work and play hard on the weekend, have driven it to Cabo San Lucas and back, and get an average of 22.25 MPG (US). If you know the part number, most local parts (NAPA, etc) either...

    electric car through PTO?

Had a crazy idea, what do you guys think? Fit an electric motor to the PTO somehow, battery bank in the trunk, transmission in neutral, transfer case in gear. Drive around town in electric mode. Keep the diesel for long trips. It would be a bit of a project, but lots of info available on...

    Anybody with 3" stainless?

First I had a 3" mild steel exhaust from Japan which rusted out pretty quick, but the muffler appeared to be good (some kind of dull stainless?) Second, I welded my own 3" aluminized steel exhaust re-using the Japanese muffler. That lasted about 6 years until it rusted off at the rear axle...

Builds Euro 1HD-FT Turbo Diesel/H151F 5 Speed Manual LHD 96' USA Swap

@Rock40 no noise with your transfer case gears? Radio off, windows closed, you can't hear anything? I am so tempted to try again, because I have heard a number of people say they are quiet. But then last week someone contacted me with the same noise issue....... so maybe there is inconsistent...

Get to antenna motor - remove passenger door?!??

Found this thread searching how to replace my entire antenna unit. What I discovered is that obviously you have to pull the radio to unplug the wire, then you have to remove the glove box to pull the wire through. It is clipped in 2 places, and if you pay attention you can clip the new one...

    Hdj81 ac

When I replaced my compressor, condenser, and dryer, I put in one 8oz bottle. So leaving the original compressor I would think 4oz sounds about right. I don't think it's an exact science, just as long as you have enough to keep the compressor lubed.

    Identify H151 age?

Sounds like I have to take it apart... guess I will wait for some good weather because once it's out I'm stuck commuting on my motorbike until it's back together!

    Identify H151 age?

Does anybody know how to identify the build date of an H151f transmission? I have one that I want to rebuild, but I don't know which syncro rings to get. I can't see a serial number or any markings anywhere on my transmission, but I will admit it is a bit dirty at the moment... Example...

So tempting... I need to rebuild my H151 first, it is getting noisy... can you hand deliver me bearings and syncros for that? :)

Hmmmmmmm that is very interesting. Very interesting. I think that means you wouldn't have to change the pre-load shims on the idler shaft either eh....... I had no idea those gears would mesh properly with the original idler.
