What he said 👆 Buy the least rusty one you can find. All UK ones will be rusted in the rear wheel arches and sills, at least or have been repaired. Getting repair panels is not cheap, you will probably have to get them from abroad. The 2H is a slow old engine but reliable. The 12HT is much more...

A little late to this party....but I thought I would add a photo of my Engine Adjustment decal for a 1/68 FJ40 (from Australia). Same blue colour as the '67 decal but same info as the white '68 decal.

Just a quick update on the benefit of treating with Penetrol. I think it is pretty clear from this photo which side got the oil

Of course we care.... 😁 Here's my tray efforts.. Gave the rust a scuff with a disc and a sander. Coated it in acid, then oiled up the other metal work. (This is the nearest to Penetrol that we can get). Wasn't sure what to do with the acid once it had reacted and gone sticky, so I coated one...

Yup, standard rusty sheet metal. I'll maybe give it an oil, as it's not very thick. Rest of the body starting to shine now ☺️

Thanks. Still a bit to do with the CLR. One bottle wasn't enough.. 2 more ordered. Also would like to get the frame protected too. I have a 2 stage compound by Farecla ( G3 & G10) , so will use that followed by a wax on the body. Tray will probably get the Penetrol treatment.

Thanks @wngrog for such a great thread. I bought this super original '69 FJ45 from Australia 5 years ago and have been working on it off and on since then. Turned out the engine was full of rusty sludge so, despite the "assistance" of a vacationing maniac from California, it wasn't going...

Anyone here have experience of finding early (1964) LiteStout front brake cylinders? I get the impression they are unobtainium.....

Looks great but never seen a Troopy with Shorty side windows. Is that a Colombia thing?
