I been asked to make the upper quarter panels for some time now and finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago and started on some tooling. Here is our 1st attempt which I am pretty happy with.

These have always been a problem area on 70s & 40s as the grime and water can lodge in the rubber. The foil was placed there by a previous owner in the hope it would solve the problem. If you can, use a epoxy primer and wax inject the inside and out before reassembly.

When your code is put in our system it comes up as two tone. 21M = 148 silver & 204 black Hope this helps.

I can check this number tomorrow but it sounds wrong to me for a BJ74. The VIN will normally show 2 sets of codes C/TRM colour and trim. Is it a metallic colour ?

I have been away but the guys got working on refitting the engine and gearbox. Here are some before and after pics showing 35 years of grime.

Not everyone likes the zinc coated panel work because of the extra work involved in welding but once its properly prepared you have a much better finished panel. Luckily our winter temperatures don't freeze to much in a normal year so not too much salt used but its damp for most of the year...

Thanks for the comments gents. Its going very well at the moment but I think we will be fabricating new lower rear doors as the original doors are in very poor condition.

The rear tub cross members and support panels were in very poor condition so we completed the tub today with some new sections.

It would be worth the trip over just to see a rust free BJ. The last time I seen a rust free BJ was 1980 when I worked on them during my apprenticeship. The company I worked for had a contract with Toyota for refinishing any damage on new vehicles after they landed in Ireland from Japan...
