Get an engine manual before doing anything. I should have mentioned that at the outset ... They can be obtained at a reasonable cost from many of our regular suppliers; and there may be a digital one here on mud.

Clean it ! Take the engine out of the truck and slowly disassemble everything ... and clean clean clean ... then using new gaskets (available at a number of places, including Amayama, Megazip, etc.) put it back together. Blow out the fuel lines ... have the injection pump serviced at a diesel...

Pretty well all of the 24v lights on my cruiser are LED (except the headlights) - including the signals and brakes, and of course my interior lights. Any bulb that fits the socket seems to work just fine (only brighter).

use LED's - there are several kinds, but they are very bright and operate on 6-32v.

Sounds pretty cool, especially with all the accessories. Strongly recommend the synthetic cable option.

sounds to me like there is a valve timing issue, and the venturi lines are reversed. Did you line up all the timing marks on the camshaft, crank, idler and injection pump when you re-assembled ? The clanking sounds like the wrong valves are opening and hitting the tops of the pistons - you...

Is your engine a B or 3B ? The 3B has an oil cooler on the side; where the B are just covers.

I saw it this morning just before 8, getting loaded onto a tow truck. Having a green BJ40, I normally notice them around town. I don't think it was local (or not being driven much). It was a lime green with (as Steve said) a black tub. I think it didn't have ambulance doors, just the kind...
