Anyone paying a ton for insurance?

I dropped everything to the minimum on my 2008. I'm going to do the same on the other cars. It's a crisis across the entire industry now. I've only had one insurance claim in 30 years of driving. Edit: And my wife literally drove through a fence on icy roads 4 years ago, and I didn't fix...

SQOD Squad - Stupid Question Of the Day

I wasn't able to find any threads on this. What do I need to search for? I'm lifted about 3" in the back.

SQOD Squad - Stupid Question Of the Day

Here's the conclusion to my issue last week. I have these adjustable rear lower control arms. You are supposed to tighten this nut every other oil change. I didn't do that for about 5 years. End result is that one of them started backing out, and the forward/backward movement wore out the...

SQOD Squad - Stupid Question Of the Day

Well, I got my cruiser back home. Really unimpressed with the amount of metal in my supposedly shot rear diff. I have an oil sample in a mason jar, but it's nothing terrible. They did have an interesting finding - looks like a lower control arm is having some issues. I'll share results once I...

SQOD Squad - Stupid Question Of the Day

Diff bearings / oil seal kit. It's the latter. They mentioned something about the trailing arm on one side sliding around in its mount, which might explain what I've been hearing/feeling. What happened is that I was reversing out of a spot, back and to the passenger side, then went forwards...

SQOD Squad - Stupid Question Of the Day

All kinds of bad noises in my '08 with 172,000 miles on it. Did a full service when I bought it, back at like 115,000 miles. Shop says all kinds of metal in the rear diff. Needs bearings at least. 6 hours of shop time, plus the bearing kits adds up to like $2k. Can't find any complete diffs to...

    Toyo OpenCountry AT3 Experience?

I really like these tires so far. I experienced decreased road noise, but I believe that's going from a recommended 42psi with my KO2s to a recommended 37psi. Both tires are E load rated, but I also moved from an 18" wheel to 17" wheel. More cushion for the pushin' with the extra sidewall...

Media Post your wheeling damage pics

I have one of the 180 degree models - the previous generation of the one I'll link below. I also have the 140 degree model in my other car. They are good, simple devices. Doesn't take much power. You can use one of those all-in-one fuse box piggy back kits to run USB power up to your mounting...

Winter Weather 2021 Tire Review: The South

My 34" Toyo Open Country AT3s are doing fantastic. Except when my wife drives, as shown in the wheeling damage thread. Ice doesn't care about your non-studded tires. Snow on the other hand, or going up and down my driveway, is no problem.

Media Post your wheeling damage pics

This is not technically wheeling damage. Here's my wife's first experience driving on ice. Born and raised in San Francisco and it shows. My @TRAIL TAILOR front bumper + bull bar just paid for itself. Everything after this I'm making money. In case you ever wondered if you could drive...

    keeping a 200 alive "forever"

Some time in the next 5 years I'll convert my 2008 to the Australian parts which move the HVAC controls out of the head unit. Then I'll just buy whatever double DIN head unit I want and not have to worry about that particular failure.

    Intermittent squeal - idler pulley?

I had to replace my fan clutch at about 150k miles. Talk about a nasty squeal when that thing starts binding up. I don't think that is your issue, but it's definitely something that can (will?) happen eventually.

Noob with a totaled 08 Land Croozr

What's your plan of attack for those airbags? Can you just buy replacements straight from Toyota, remove, replace?!

    Replace that PCV valve

    Terrifying.

    Anyone tried Xenopro LED headlights?

I hope so. By my calculations if I get 32 months out of a set of Hikaris at $54/pair, I can expect, what, 147 months of service for the price of the ARB LEDs? I'll take it.
