Hoping bore is ok. Place in Edmonton used to sell single pistons. Almost same as a set though!

    Project help

Not turboed. Noisy injector that I neglected too long I think hammered the piston. And lands. Of course just a working theory until I finish pulling the head.

    Project help

Compression was bad. Mostly got the head off but was missing the right wrench for the injection pipe fitting. Then fell out of a tree. Bad wrist set me back on wrenching. Plan was to pull the head and see if the bore is ok. If yes, then order a piston. A bit tricky to do in a parking lot but I...

Afterglow not working on 2H 24V

Thanks! I've been through the diagnostics (have an original hard copy manual at that!) and it points to the glow plug timer. #2 relay seems OK. I have not been able to source a schematic for the timer module. Hoping that someone has fixed theirs and might help me get started on debugging...

Afterglow not working on 2H 24V

Patient is a Canadian spec 1986 HJ60. Very stock. Starts fine, even when cold. But after about 20s to 30s (depending on temperature) the first glow plug heat cycle is over (relay #1 shuts off and voltage to glow plug rail drops to 0V). Engine shakes and smokes bad until it warms up (takes a...

Need diesel help in Victoria BC

I do have a spare fuel filter ... hmm. Maybe will first try draining the fuel separator. Both easy and cheap so a good place to start!

Need diesel help in Victoria BC

Hi, My old and trusty HJ60 is missing very badly today. Totally stock Canadian spec. Lots of blue smoke that smells like unburnt diesel. Didn't get better after letting it run (been having some glow plug timer issues). My DIY compression gauge is back in Ontario. Hoping that someone local has...

87 hj60 frame swap with 89 fj62 frame help plz

BTW, you can leave the old automatic transmission mounts on the frame. They don't get in the way of anything. Mine are still there (was on the new/used frame I got). That said removing them would make things more tidy down there.

87 hj60 frame swap with 89 fj62 frame help plz

Well the scary step is lifting the body up to clear all the bits. Although surprisingly light compared to the drivetrain, it is easily heavy enough to crush you in a very bad way should it come down on you. So if you pull out the engine and transmission FIRST, you don't need to lift it much at...

    HJ60 in Winter: Help

May sound minor ... but on an aggravation level something to consider. If the rear tailgate upper gas lift supports are weak in the summer, they will be pretty much useless when it gets cold. Either you get used to having it come down on your head, use a stick to support it, or get some...

87 hj60 frame swap with 89 fj62 frame help plz

Don't try to do this in your driveway unless you have the time and a good insurance (personal and public liability). I was contemplating a driveway swap but elected to do it in a garage with a 2 post lift. It was easy and safe this way. Well worth it. Took 6 days of wrenching. Body came off...
