Motor maybe OK but I now suspect the plastic gears may be just worn enough (even though I can't see the wear visually) that they are not "grabbing" the plastic antenna cable teeth at full retraction and keeps trying to retract "thinking" that it hasn't finished the job.
Sorry for not replying...
I have opened the assembly up twice to check that there is nothing residual from the previous shaft/cable and fed the new one in twice from scratch. Everything seems to work fine until it retracts and then the grinding starts and lasts a good 5 seconds or more. If it wasn't loud it wouldn't...
The thing I should have clarified was that it did not make such a racket when the old bent mast retracted partially. Thanks for the pointer to find the cap from other Toyotas. Boston area does not seem to have many junk yards so I will have to drive out to one that has a stock of junk Toyotas to...
I washed the undercarriage with a power washer and a chassis washer gizmo that I found on line. Flushed out all dirt (not much) from the frame. Looked like the car has never been in real mud or sand. Drove it to get the moisture out and then let it air-dry for 48 hours. Sprayed in 3M cavity...
I replaced my broken antenna mast. Elongation worked fine but on retraction there is a grinding noise for a good 5seconds before it quiets down( works fine otherwise). I opened up the motor, cleaned, lubricated and re-assembled it but sounds the same. To boot I dropped the chrome "cap" and can't...
I am in the process of replacing my 2000 LC windshield side moldings. Screws used by previous windshield expert and the Toyota stock rivets don't fit because the holes got enlarged. I have ordered more rivets (different sizes) to see what will fit. I put fresh RTV into the channel to seal it up...
This car sounds like it is in great shape. I would drive it because that is 1/2 the adventure.
But hey that's me I just drove a 2000 LC with 280k miles after an on site inspection. If you S-I-L's has been maintained you should be fine. If you have time then get the cooling system pressure...
Yep, I have to second this given my purchase experience over the summer for a 2000 LC. That rust is a major asking price reduction point. Also, concur with what someone said about finding a non-rusty vehicle (with a clean engine and transmission that's the route I went)
I managed to get my passenger side valve cover off this past week and have not been able to make any further progress due to lack of a plastic scraper to get the mating surface clean. I ordered a special plastic scraper with special scotch brite pad to make sure that I don't do the job like the...
I did this test for the CV axle /Flange area vs. the Front Diff bushing. I can see movement of the Front Diff Bushing but nothing on the CV/Axle Flange. Is CV/Axle flange movement distinct for those that found that problem as the source of the thunk from P to D or D to R or R to D?
I greased up...
Does the '99 LX470 have the A442F transmission? If that is the case there is no overflow plug. I have a 2000 LC and that has the A442F with no overflow plug that I can find. Fill and check level through the dipstick is only option as far as I can surmise.
Nice looking truck! I have spent last two months looking at pretty badly rusted LCs in the Northeast and decided to get one from Oregon. Yours look pretty OK to me but I am not an expert. Your underbody specialist should be able to put your mind at ease hopefully. After that If you are really...
