For Sale 1973 FJ40 in Houston / looking for input on price/ad

Mostly tire kickers. Metal is good under the diamond plating except for under the running boards. Does flipping the bezel just make it look sweeter? Probably worth taking 5 minutes and doing it. Thanks!

For Sale 1973 FJ40 in Houston / looking for input on price/ad

Hi guys - got a four month old baby so can't justify my toy like I used to. Anybody know anyone looking for a rig? Also for experienced sellers - think ~$20k is a fair price? She's running really well, but some of the guys who have come to look at it are afraid to hold a wrench / want...

License plate light reading voltage but not lighting up

Thanks 73FJ40 Used the same ground as the bulb uses, only replaced the positive. Works off of the battery, but not when I use a wire to connect the positive feed from the socket to the bulb.

License plate light reading voltage but not lighting up

License plate light is stock 1972, one light. Just ran a wire from the pos terminal on the battery to the bulb, with another wire taking it to the socket to test whether the socket was grounded. Bulb lit up. This leads me back to my frayed wire hypothesis. Could the positive signal coming...

License plate light reading voltage but not lighting up

Thanks guys for weighing in. Yeah I'm using the same ground the bulb uses, which is just the metal socket. Any good way to check ground besides running a wire from the battery, around the rig, and to the socket?

License plate light reading voltage but not lighting up

As the title says, the license plate light is reading about 10 V on the multimeter but the bulb is not lighting up. I tried lighting the bulb across the battery terminals and it worked. Made sure the multimeter reads 10 V even when I push in the spring on the socket and it does. Could a...

    Dieseling / very high idle on 72 FJ40 w/ Weber 38/38

JohnnyC / 65swb45 Thanks for all your help - turns out the accelerator cable was too tight and was placing load on the engine constantly. Loosened it and my settings to try to back down the RPMs killed my engine. Followed Weber's tuning instructions and she's sitting pretty at 700 RPM and...

    Dieseling / very high idle on 72 FJ40 w/ Weber 38/38

Thanks bigredrocker Doesn't the red arrow on my picture control the fast idle speed? Seems adjusting this hasn't impacted my idle once I'm up to temperature but it has gotten my fast idle speed down to ~1100.

    Dieseling / very high idle on 72 FJ40 w/ Weber 38/38

Hi I have what I believe is a Weber 38 on my rig and I can't manage to get the RPMs down below 1600 at curb idle. On startup, the fast idle RPMs are about 1100 but as soon as the thing heats up the speed climbs to about 2000 and stays there. I've been trying to figure out what changes I need...

FREE Rusty heater pipe if anyone wants it

Gents Thanks to some help from folks on this forum, I successfully bypassed my heater pipe with a 1.75" radiator line as part of a broader coolant flush project. Now I have a corroded heater pipe for a 2F w/ AC free to a good home. Otherwise I'll probably throw it away. Pics attached.

    Bypassing heater system entirely

Thank you! This is what I was hoping to understand. So the flow is from the top of the engine. Any issue with using a brass BSPT plug in terms of metallurgy? I assume I'll want to put a hot service teflon tape to lubricate the threads for future work. That radiator hose looks pretty...

    Bypassing heater system entirely

Thanks reddingcruiser, that's true. Mostly I'm concerned about the engine inlet line. Does the engine need to receive coolant in the rear upper LH side to function properly? Would I be risking damage to the engine if I don't send any coolant to the heater line / engine inlet line? Besides...

    Bypassing heater system entirely

Hi Guys Removed the radiator last night to take to a radiator shop and noticed that my heater pipe ('84 w/ AC version) is totally corroded and leaking particulate rust. A while back I bypassed the heater inside the firewall with a single coolant line running from one side of the engine (to...
