Definitive correct method to check transmission fluid on 8 speeds?

Maybe my google/youtube-fu is lacking but I am having trouble finding the absolute "correct" method to check transmission fluid level for the newer 8 speed transmissions? Any suggestions? Thanks

Storage solutions that are not drawer systems, please take and post a pic of the current state of your rear storage area

I regularly use my LC to haul random crap. Sometimes it's tall crap. Sometimes it's wide crap. Drawers won't work because I rarely have notice of whatever crap I will have to put in the back. I always have a tiny folding step stool, recovery rope and some shackles, small tool kit, couple small...

    Heritage Edition question

I will also add that the leather in the heritage is not as nice as a regular LC. I don't recall what toyota calls it, but it's I think fake leather - not the semi aniline. It doesn't feel as nice as LX leather. Also, the roof rack is cool, but it makes the LC about 7'1". Too tall to fit in a...

    P0335…to a bent valve (update...and it's not good…but it’s getting better...She's ALIVE!)

Yeah, but kind of a ridiculous problem on a "low stress v-8". If this were trying to hit 9k redlines it would be a little more forgivable. I googled it extensively (that makes me an expert, right!?) before buying my LC. It definitely happens post 2011. Google Toyota 5.7 valve spring failure -...

It's pretty crazy how often you read about broken valve springs on these 5.7s.

Recommendations for a pre purchase inspection in Seattle area?

"They always use this one shop" is a huge red flag. You need a completely independent shop with a good reputation. Toyota dealership is going to be hit or miss, but I would go with that quicker than an unknown shop or shop that "they always use". Before doing anything, get a bunch of pics of...

FYI - The Tesla roadside safety kit fits perfectly in the tailgate

I was genuinely impressed with the kit. A little pricier than the stuff you can find on amazon, but compression bandages etc - better than the typical bandaids you see in most of these. The bag itself is good quality, scissors are decent, safety vest is decent. Hopefully it's never needed

Roof Channel Molding, how to remove slider clips?

I am talking about these plates, red arrow. They have arrows indicating to slide them back and then sideways but we figured it out. You slide them following to two arrow direction, then pull them up and one end unclips. These plates help hold in some rubber molding (basically "gutter covers"...

Roof Channel Molding, how to remove slider clips?

Two of the long rubber/plastic pieces flew out, almost definitely when I (had to) go through a touchless car wash. There are two remaining, but my detail guy wasn't sure how to unclip them and is extremely careful not to break anything. He wants to remove the existing ones, clean out the...

Roof Channel Molding, how to remove slider clips?

Edit: Figured it out. Clips slide fwd/back, then one side lifts up. Heritage, but I assume they are all the same. I am missing a couple of the roof drip channel molding pieces that run front/back. They are held in with this slider clips with a bunch of arrows. It's not immediately clear what...

Basket-style roof rack with more clearance than HE factory rack - or lower HE rack?

Thanks for the reply. If there was a bracket that lowers the factory cross bars I think that would be the easiest solution.

Basket-style roof rack with more clearance than HE factory rack - or lower HE rack?

Thanks for the input everyone. @lx200inAR you are exactly right. The support bars that go front/rear are basically on the roof rack crossbars. I'm looking into lowering the crossbars to see if I can squeeze a couple inches of room.

Basket-style roof rack with more clearance than HE factory rack - or lower HE rack?

I need to look at it closer when it's not raining, but at least on mine there appears to be a good 1.5-2" of extra space in the 4 brackets that attach the basket to the crossbars. I might pry some time out of a machinist buddy and see if he can come up with something that is height adjustable...
