OK to tow 3,000 pound trailer without trailer brakes?

Thanks all. I do have lots of experience towing (and just driving) in the mountains, so I'm good on that front. But thanks for calling those recommendations out specifically.

OK to tow 3,000 pound trailer without trailer brakes?

@Rgill - We're not hauling the bikes, we're hauling gear for weekend races (tents, tools, grills, propane tanks, etc.)

OK to tow 3,000 pound trailer without trailer brakes?

@kcjaz - The trailer does not have brakes. @GordJ - Here is a picture of the model of the trailer (not our actual trailer, but this is the make/model).

OK to tow 3,000 pound trailer without trailer brakes?

Hi Mud! I'm going to be towing a single axle trailer that weighs about 3,000 pounds (it's a trailer for my kids' mountain bike team). No trailer brakes. The dealer we bought it from doesn't recommend trailer brakes if towing with an SUV unless the trailer weight EXCEEDS 3,000 pounds. We...

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

And then the day took a turn for the worse... A guy in an Expedition slid in the parking lot into the rear of my parked LX. (I wish he had snow tires on.) He has good insurance and we started the claim today. But still obviously a major bummer. Tail gate and lift gate are damaged. Any tips on...

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

I bought and installed the Blizzaks (DMv2s 285/50R20; $1,320 all-in for 4). First day today on the snow and ice. They were AMAZING. I was planted on the ice while Jeeps and other vehicles were sliding sideways and some even doing full 360s. Very happy so far.

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

Thanks folks! I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of Blizzak DM-V2 in size 265/70R17. They're available for $200/tire with a $110 rebate. Can anyone here confirm that that size (265/70R17) is ok for the LX? Thx! I couldn't find anything closer to the factory 285 width. The largest I could...

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

@turbo8 - The annoying slipping actually occurred at super low speeds, crawling in the traffic line heading into the ski hill. Slipping mostly upon braking and trying to turn ... the vehicle wouldn't stop. I felt neither the antilock brakes nor the traction control. And no, I did not lock the...

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

@TheIcemanCometh - The tires were installed about 2.5 years ago. I can't find the date code tonight (will look again tomorrow in daylight) ... but I usually check those before taking delivery, so I think they should be reasonably close to ~3 years old.

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

@Bawa and @04UZJ100 - curious, what size snow tires do you run on an LX? My rims are 17" Thx!

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

@nautiquelover - Thx for the suggestion. But I do a lot of off-roading in the non-winter months, so I'm looking for one all around tire, if at all possible: - Offroad - Road - Snow Though I suppose I could run winter tires in the winter.

Slipping in snow/ice on Toyo OC AT III tires - any suggestions?

Hi folks — We ski a lot in the western Sierras in California, and so are driving in our fair share of snowy and icy conditions. Vehicle is 2011 LX on Toyo Open Country AT III LT285/70R17 tires. They get 8.7 on Tire Rack for snow/ice performance. I feel I get less grip and therefore slide more...

Starter failure: what are the signs?

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the input. I'm taking it in tomorrow to my indie to get it done. I'll have them test the battery, etc. as well. But regardless, I will have them replace the starter since we take the truck to remote destinations (camping in the desert; skiing in the mountains)...

Starter failure: what are the signs?

Hi folks -- I have a 2011 LX with 150k miles on the clock. Starter is original. Never had any issues until tonight. Here's what happened... Tried to start and nothing happened (maybe some clicking?) Pressed start again and didn't start Pressed start again and heard clicking Turned vehicle...

Mark Levinson Amp - Fan Replacement (2011 LX570)

@trudd - Unfortunately no resolution for me. The fans still make loud sounds, and some of my speakers don't sound great. I'm just dealing with it because I don't like the alternative: buying a new amp, or sending it in for an expensive refurbishment. That would likely (?) fix the issue, but I...
