These are made in the USA from 304 stainless, so if you can roll your own for less, more power to you! As for the fit, it's hard to put a dollar value on a perfect fit. There is something so satisfying about a product that just fits.

We have absolutely no idea what motivated that mod. We are trying to run down some details, but it sounds like this was a project Pig that did not get finished and then has changed hands a few times. We do have this additional picture:
