Axle - Gears - Lockers GX470 Upgrade Thread

Just going to stick with my stock axle, just bought new R&P, seals, and straight pinion sleeve. I don’t want to go to 35’s and I don’t enjoy bashing my rig on the rocks so hopefully will get another 188k miles out of this next set.

Axle - Gears - Lockers GX470 Upgrade Thread

Well after starting this thread back in 2018 I did nothing, I did not service for Pre-Load nor did I upgrade. This past Saturday I did Gold Mtn. In Big Bear and damn did that trail change since I last did it 8 or so years ago! Well it’s official I have joined the busted ring & pinion club!

Pros and Cons of Desmogging all original FJ40

Yes, I do apparently have a vacuum leak on the intake manifold on the rear runners according to the carburetor mechanic I had look at it. He said hopefully it’s just a gasket but to put a straight edge on it to check. He suggested to send the carb off to be re-built because he cannot get a...

Pros and Cons of Desmogging all original FJ40

Nope 75’ and older is exempt in CA for smog. No stamp and why I am thinking this is a carb not worth re-building.

Pros and Cons of Desmogging all original FJ40

So my 75 JFJ40 has a re-painted unknown carburetor in it that is running filthy rich at 10.87% at cruise 2,500. I am getting 7 mpg’s and rather than send my un-known carb for re-build I was thinking of getting the one off of CityRacer. I have already removed the smog pump due to it seizing up on...

New Toyota belt is too big

I was hit up in a DM to provide the outcome of this and while I have a Toyota belt for when I finally install the correct alternator for now to keep me enjoying her. Toyota no longer sells the two shorter belts that would have worked so I went with Napa and after a few tries I got the 25-22495...

New Toyota belt is too big

Now to find a smaller belt until I can source a decent used or re-built alternator. Hmm, Cruiser Corps has remanufactured alternators for: 1967-1/1975 $139.90 1/1975-9/1977 $133.98 Classic Cruisers has an OEM Remanufactured one 1972-1975 $274.99 BTB Products has an OEM restored one...
