Saying thank you for this masterful idea! After 2 years , I can open my tailgate from the outside. I ended up adding two nylon washers on each side of the bolt to prevent metal on metal and lubed it with some bike grease. Thanks mate!

Anyone have ideas on getting a new cylinder lock set for my 1991 HDJ81 (JDM)? Driver's side is busted due to an attempted break in a few years ago, and left side it going bad as well. Ignition is fine. I haven't been able to find an OEM set in stock on places like Amayama....
