eBay 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser - 148k, rust free

Guys, selling my 60! It's been fun to poke around town with, but need to get the fleet down from 5 cars to something a little more reasonable. Clean body, intact interior, faded paint, rock-solid frame, rebuilt knuckles, new cooling system, etc. Ad has details and pics, and ask any questions...

Won't transition to idle once engine's warm

Guys - I'm a little stumped. My 60 cruises well, and idles well. But once it's fully warmed up and then some (probably 20-25 minutes+), it won't transition from cruising (let's say 2000-3000rpm or so) to idling without dying unless I blip/stab the gas during that transition. If I don't blip...

Turning on lights kills engine, and hot taillight relay?

Makes sense to me! So logic side is likely fried. Thanks @jawjatek. Will start there

Turning on lights kills engine, and hot taillight relay?

Alright, so slowly I'm getting this beast reliable. Fixed the bad splice above, and now that I have nice clean power, the engine purrs and everything on the TAIL LAMP circuit (bunch of lights: tail, dash, license plate, side markers, glove box, etc) works. However, I am getting intermittent...

    Alternator altering

@gregnash, nice setup - pretty much what I was thinking. OK, 90A alternator (with internal fan) finally came in at O'reilly. Looks like it's not plug and play - the mounting ears are 2" apart (inside to inside) vs the ~3" on the original 60A and 80A. @NookShneer , think you were hinting at...

    Carb fan rebuild

OK OK @Spike Strip, got one better for you - this one's $25 and at least has a sticker that says Made in USA, and comes in a box: New Engine Cooling Fan Motor Four Seasons fits:1990-95 Toyota Mitsubishi & Acura | eBay. I know everyone has a list of needs for their 60, so if you only spend $25...

Very good find, @Spike Strip! Found them even a little cheaper, courtesy of the 'bay : There are a few on there, $25-28 shipped. 4 Seasons 35404 A/C Condenser Fan Motor / Engine Cooling Fan Motor. Others ask $80 for the same part.

Turning on lights kills engine, and hot taillight relay?

Alright, mystery solved! Somewhere along the line, someone made a poor splice of both the white charging wire and the thinner white wire that terminate together into the ring terminal on the back of the alternator. Over time, the splice got super corroded. Wonder if this helped kill the...

    Alternator altering

Thanks guys. I picked up the 80A version, and the 90A version is on special order from O'reilly. Going to see which one would work - preference for the 90A version to allow for more flexibility on future add-ons. So here's the plan: Currently, the way I understand the setup is that the...

    Alternator altering

Thanks for putting all this together, guys! Is the 62's 90amp, internal fan version viable (i.e. Remy 14958 or Denso 2100177 at Rock Auto)? @NookShneer , does the bracket lay a little across the face of the 62 alternator? If so, the internal fan version wouldn't work unless you extended the...

Turning on lights kills engine, and hot taillight relay?

Thanks Yota! Just thought of something - can I assume that since my taillight fuse is staying intact, and the relay gets super-warm but will not actuate (although it bench tests perfectly), that the short is probably in the low power side and not the high power side?

Build Work In Progress aka: Badass

Yota, thanks for chiming in on my thread re: the fusible link. I'd stumbled across this thread a little earlier, and was pretty impressed! I have a couple of young boys and a one year old daughter, and hope to get them all comfortable with a wrench in their hands. "Dare me" is right. DIY'ing...
