It's a sad day, but I need to let this project go so it doesn't just rot away in my driveway. New baby, etc has eaten the time an money this project deserves, so I'm ready to pass this rare bird on to a new home.

1979 FJ55
Factory PS
Factory AC
3.73 Axles
4 spd manual

I bought this as a non-runner. Motor gave up on the previous owner due to smog gear issues, and he gave up on it. My plans were to do an SBC conversion, so I have sold some parts off the motor. So the block and most components are there, but it is missing the following items:

Intake and carb
Cylinder head
Alternator

All of the AC and PS components are still there, but as this never ran while owned it, I cannot attest to what works and what does not. The PO also did some de-smogging, so the smog pump is there, but again, not sure if that even works. The transmisstion and transfer case shift smoothly, and the crank turns by hand, and I belive the block to be rebuildable for someone who wanted to take it back to stock.

Some other points:

BODY/RUST:

Pretty standard Pig rust. Rear quarters not quite gone but heading there. Bottom of DS front fender rusted through. I have patch panels from rare spares for both rear quarters (not the rear corner, but the lower wheel well section) and also for the lower DS front fender, these would go with. Roof in pretty good shape, a little rust in the gutter but not much. Floor has some rust but not rusted through anywhere that I can see. Body is pretty straight with the exception of the PS rear corner, PO backed it into something, and this will need a donor or some pretty good body work. I do have and will include an aftermarket rear tail light assembly for this side as that was also destroyed in that incident.

Interior: Not great, but servicable. Door panels are all there, but warped, and some damage. Top of dash is in rough shape. Rear seat is stock and in good condition, front has been replaced with soem unknown grey cloth buckets.

If you need more details please email me at eperry0303@hotmail.com. I don't have the resources to part this out, so please do not ask about individual parts.

Listing on Craiglist for $1200, MUD price of $1000.

One day... will rejoin the ranks of Pig Owners...Just not in the cards right now.

less than 500 came into the States in '79, IINM.

Unfortunately, I parted one years back before I knew what I had.

Someone save this blessed Pig, please!!

P.S. I have a radiator for this swine, should the new owner need it (they were specific to '79's) hijack over

No worries on the hijack:). But just FYI, this does include the stock 79 rad in good condition, as well as the AC cooler and PS cooler...

I kept the P/S outta the one I parted and just installed it last month. Can you say "OOOOwwww YEAH!" ?

If I didn't have to deal with the smog nazis already I'd probably be up there handing you a wad of cash.

Please, please, please make sure a Mudder picks this up and wants to reserect it.

The last of our breed, bretheren..........

I'll do my best...Got a hit from the Craigslist ad already, somebody coming to look at it tonight. Hopefully I'll find a buyer with good intentions.

It'll be a sad day...had high hopes for this piggie. But I'm not quitting my pig obsession...Just postponing it.

Thanks for the support Bogus One.

Oh boy, this is tough.

I hope you find a good home for it!

Would you be able to take pics of how the A/C condensor, drier and compressor mount in your Pig?

I need to re-install the system in mine (came un-installed)

I appreciate if you can take these pictures...

I'll get some more pics for you tonite...I think I have one or two of the compressor here, but I'll get a better one. it sits just under the alternator...hard to tell from these pics how it's mounted. I've since removed the alternator and head, so I should have a better view when I go home tonight.

I think they use a special engine mount to carry the A/C compressor. I had that mount once upon a time.

similar to a 60 series?

side hi-jack.... I understand the 79 rads are different. are the a/c rads different again? like the 40 series uses a different rad for a/c rigs.

just wondering

That is correct. I don't know if it's the same as the 60 series, but I do have a couple of those mounts (out of pigs) available if anyone is in need.

call Kurt at SOR, he should be able to enlighten

Thank you.

I REALLY appreciate it!

This will help me button up my A/C install. I don't think we have a good A/C resource thread in teh 55 section.

I sold this tonight but buyer (fellow MUDDER) isn't picking up for a few days so I'll still get those pics for you in the next couple of days.

SOLD

Hi guys,

This one is sold to a fellow local MUD member who responded to my Craigslist ad. Happy to report this little piggy is going to a very good home and will be on the road again soon, much like stock condition. Bittersweet, but happy this one isn't getting parted out.

I'll be back!

Good to hear

Not sure on that. I'm running the stock rad on my FJ55 but I have the 3B diesel and A/C (the truck the rad came from did not have A/C). My BJ60 has a special rad for A/C (4 core instead of 3 core).

I would be interested.

Can you post a pic, partly for my edification, and partly as a Pig resource?

I'll try to get one to you later today.

There are three different A/C compressor/motor mounts. All of them take the place of the RH front motor mount bracket.

early-4/'75(holds the nippondenso version of a two cylinder york.) Bent/welded plate steel mount with a large nearly horizontal plate that the compressor bottom bolted to.

4/'75-1/'79(holds a wierd nippondenso rotary compressor which is interestingly not available from toyota anymore, but was used in BMW's, and repair parts and reman'ed compressors can be sourced). Bent/welded plate steel mount similar to the cast FJ60 mount.

1/'79 and later. Same as FJ40 and FJ60 common a/c compressor/motor mount.

Radiators:
No specifc A/C radiators, just the normal changes through the years. the thin radiator of 79's was a 79 thing, not a/c only...
