This has been coming for a while now.. I had a HJ60 that I sold a while back as I found a FJ60 in much better condition. After driving it for a few months I really wasn't liking the 3F motor. In a nutshell it had super-bad gas mileage and the power also sucked so apart from reliability it didn't have much going for it in my eyes anyway.. I started looking around for a 1HZ to replace the 3F.. As luck would have it a 1HD-T became available with around 300000km and I got it for a good price.. It was a great buy as it came with the correct bellhousing to fit the H55F that was standard in my vehicle. After loads of reading threads here on MUD I collected the rest of the parts needed. I then sent my truck and the parts to a guy over 600 miles away who has been known to do great work on Cruisers here in SA.. I don't have the know-how to do a full engine swap so I figured I might as well get the best guy to do the job for me.. There were a few hitches along the way but nothing too major and big thanks to lynchmob who was very helpful with any questions I had along the way... This all happened over a three month period and I fianlly collected my truck this past week and drove it back home.. Let me tell you the difference is frikken massive! Mileage has improved from 5km/litre (11mpg) to almost 9km/l (21mpg)
And the power, jeez this 1HD-T pulls like a train
It's just way more drivable than the old gasser plant.. the torque is always there and most of the time 5th gear is all you need
Had a EGT Gauge and boost gauge installed at the same time to keep an eye on things too.. I'm planning on getting the motor rebuilt at some stage but it just feels so good right now that I'm in no rush now.. I'm super stoked I got this done as now I can drive it everyday..
