Well I'm fussy about maintenance and I read "Owners Manuals" and even "Workshop Manuals". Yet until a recent thread on MUD, I was completely unaware that this plug on my BJ40s injector pump was there for draining engine oil that leaks through internal seals into the diaphragm enclosure (into the governor housing).

I have never found any mention of this maintenance task in any Toyota literature that I have (and I have more than most people).

So after 28yrs, I just removed this plug (10mm spanner) and watched between 5 and 10ml of dirty old engine oil drain out.

Don't ya just love MUD!

I got about a film canister worth out of the HJ. Maybe first time for it too...
Must be nice knowing 30 years of your trucks history - I am always guessing.

awesome.... now I will have to do mine for the first time too :)

Could be this one just at left of the primer ..

I will check today in Techa .. maybe after 20 years the first one also ..

I'm pretty sure it is the one I've circled in red.

(PS. Your pump is on the wrong side of the motor.)

I've done mine a couple of times but I'm not regular.

Did /does drainig this improve acceleration , or fuel mileage or does it just prevent a 30 year plus possible problem??

I'm not expecting any difference Joe. But if a lot of oil was allowed to collect in there and it reached the leather diaphragm, it would certainly hasten its deterioration.

i drain mine all the time i've never noticed any increase of HP or anything first time i did it was when the 3b was first put into the fj60 (after the first oil change)

you'll never find this info in any of toyotas manuals you will only find this in maintenaces manuals and the only manual that makes referancs to draining the oil out of a inline pump is a cummings manual yet just aboot all inline pumps have an oil drain plug (just my 2 cents)

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I can't seem to find the drainage plug on my injection pump.

It's a pump for a 2H with automatic.

Here's IP from two different angles, not the clearest picture, but the best I can do with the air filter housing blocking my view.

As you can see, where Tapage's 2H IP indeed has a drain plug, mine has none.

After reading the engine manual, it seems there are differences between the manual and automatic IPs, and that the 12HT IP is more similar to the 2H AT IP than the 2H MT IP.

Does anyone happen to know its location?

2H autos don't control the fuel with vacuum like the manuals and 3Bs do. No diaphragm might mean no concern about leakage? Then no drain plug is required.

It'll be messier but I imagine you can take the whole access cover off and drain what is in there.

Likewise, I can't see why you should ever need to drain oil from the mechanical governor (used in cruisers with automatic transmissions).

While accumulated oil can damage the leather diaphragm in a pneumatic governor - I can't see anything able to be damaged in a mechanical governor.

For inquisitive folk I see there is a big inspection plug there ... But access may be difficult and personally I doubt I'd bother trying to look inside unless I had IP troubles.
