Here is Veggie80's 92' FJ80. I will try to get some more pics up as we finalize this rig this week. Enjoy:

There is a pretty good amount of fabwork that goes into installing one these and by Friday we should have everything ready to go. The 700R4 is a new "K" case tranny specifically built for this application. Just to give you an idea, these motors are capable of around 400HP and 500Ft/lbs. This will be a mildly tuned up motor in the 180-200hp range and 300ft/lbs area. It should run around 25mpg. And, once we get it going we will be converting it over to run on Veggie oil.

I have done 100% of the fabwork on this rig, and just finished the exhaust today on it. Driveshafts should be in tomorrow, and then we will be plumbing the radiator, brake lines, intercooler lines, and turbo intake.

Here is a pic of a similar install.

WOW!!! i want 300 hp and 25mpg  .... heck i'll just take the 25mpg!
Nice lookin work. keep us posted on the conversion.

Here's a thread that talks about a mini truck 4bt conversion. I personally think it's too small of a truck for that much motor. You will need major front end work to support the 800+lbs. motor weight.

Nice job with the thread scott!

I drove a 60 with a 4bt and nv4500 today. It was mildly tuned and drove sweet. I love how it shakes the whole truck when you turn it off. Idle is pretty choppy, there are no glow plugs, under power it is GREAT. The one I was driving pulled harder at 1,000 rpm in 5th than my HJ60 does in 2nd!

Last time I was down at Proffitt's Cruisers I drove a SOA 60 with 4bt and auto trans. It also was very nice. Major turbo whine and no trouble turning 37" tires.

Hi there,

Any chance you can fit one of those in a PU.

Mark in S Florida

Yeah, it can be done. They aren't huge motors in length. Just very tall. It will require around 5" of lift and a solid axle swap if its an IFS rig.

Sent you a PM.

What is the mpg with it tuned to 200hp. I would figure it would decline slightly. (still a big jump from stock)

What are you doing to get it to 200hp?

What are the specs on his truck interms of suspension to clear the engine?

And, where are you putting the Veggis kit. Installing the aux fuel tank from oz, I am not sure where I would mount the tank then.

Anyway, send me back a pm. Not sure where you are in relation to me, but I need to book this service.

scotty i would also like to know about the gremlins and s***ty work as i am doing a diesel swap in my piggy right now and maybe some of that info would do me well to prevent me doing something i'd regret later.

83white, a guy i know owns a mobile diesel mechanic van set-up. its a small grumman type van with a 4BT in it.(smaller than a bread truck but same thing) he had it turned to 250hp but it ran pretty hot and was doing about 15MPG, so he took it down to about 180HP and it does about 22MPG. he says the truck weighs about 9k set-up. doesnt relate exactly to a cruiser but it should give some idea.

would this be too tall to fit in a 94 4runner thats 2wd? they're just a 4x4 minus the chunk and other junk. :D
your swap looks pretty sweet.

The IFS is the issue. You will still need a Solid axle and 4" lift to clear the oil pan. The 4BT is an extremely tall motor.

I'm planning on mildly turning up the fuel screw to about 180hp which should be plenty of power for the 80 and still keeping my egt's down and getting the 25-30mpg. Keep in mind when you turn these motors up to 250-300hp you are significantly sacraficing engine life. Left in the stock fuel pump settings these motors can easily get 500k.

For the veggie system I plan on using the 44gal Long Ranger tank from OZ(anybody have a used one they want to sell). If the Long Ranger tank isn't available I'll probably try and have something similar made locally. It will mount where the factory spare mounted and I will hopefully be able to get the 35" spare on a rear carrier bumper as funds will allow.

Anybody know if there is a dual filler neck available that doesn't cross contaminate?

Yowza! That is one sweet rig! So tell me, what's a ballpark of $'s into it? Or is that just going to make me :crybaby:?

Quick update. Jay and I knocked out a lot more today on his rig. Almost got it ready to fire up. Tomorrow should be the day. These are crappy cell phone pics, but you will get the idea. I will try to get some better pics as soon as possible for you.
