Details

Basics:
  • 1997 FZJ80
  • Approximately 240,000 miles
  • Repainted in its current period correct green immediately before we purchased it in 2018. Paint is 7/10
  • No concerning rust
  • Interior is approximately 8/10 - Better than most 80s I have seen
Mods
  • 4.88 differential gears
  • SUMO Low-range reduction gears
  • Front and rear ARB air lockers
  • Dual ARB compressor
  • Gears, reduction gears and lockers professionally installed by Slee and working flawlessly
  • Mickey Thompson MT 315/75R16 tires on factory wheels
  • Slee front bumper and slider steps
  • 4x4 Labs rear swing-out bumper
  • kutsnake flares
  • Slee belly plate
  • Gamiviti roof rack and interior accessory shelf
  • Dobinsons rear drawers
  • Alpine head unit
  • Rosen sun visors
  • Delta control arms
  • Dobinsons rear control arms
  • Smittybuilt winch
  • Recovered front seats
  • 3.5" Dobinsons IMS lift kit. Variable coils. Flexes like a boss
  • No front sway, I have the bar but one of the mount tabs is bent. You don't want one anyways.
Recent work:

The head gasket was suspect last summer, so the truck went to Keith’s Garage in Grand Junction for a head-gasket replacement and full top-end rebuild. The mechanic reported that the bottom end looked excellent, with the factory cylinder crosshatching still visible. I have receipts for the work. We just did a road trip from Colorado to Tahoe and back with no drama.

Other recent maintenance includes:
  • New brake vacuum booster
  • New battery
  • New hood struts
  • New spark plugs
  • New water pump
  • New rear drive shaft
  • New rear main seal
  • New knock sensors, oxygen sensors and coolant-temperature sensor
  • EGR system replaced
  • New belts, coolant hoses and power-steering hoses
  • A/C clutch and coolant service
  • Both side mirrors replaced, so no shaky mirrors
The bad:
  • Tires should be replaced soon due to uneven wear from infrequent rotations
  • One tire has a slow leak and needs air approximately once a week
  • Driver rear window does not work. It was falling out of the track, so I have it unplugged.
  • Driver’s seat has a small tear along the seam that appears repairable
  • 4x4labs rear could use new gas struts and a repaint
  • Minor underbody surface rust. Nothing concerning.
  • Crack lines in paint above the passenger-side flare from minor body-filler work completed during the repaint. It has not changed or grown during our eight years of ownership and never bothered me.
We are selling because our 60 and 80 fill similar roles, and I need to spend less time maintaining older vehicles. This is not a neglected project. It is a thoughtfully built, well-maintained and extremely capable 80 that is 100% ready to party, although the next owner should budget for tires in the near future.

$32,000. We are looking to replace this vehicle with a 200 or 570. I no longer need 35's, big flex, and lockers for the wheeling we do. Open to trades. Ideally a stock vehicle, or a very mild well though out build.

Tent is not currently on the vehicle, but I would throw that in for a sale.
