They've been cracking down on Land Rovers in particular lately. Lots of threads in rover-specific forums about it.

Lame.

Zeir papers ver not in orda!

Customs doesn't seem to notice the thousands of illegals crossing the southern border on a daily basis but they stopped that "dangerous" Land Rover.
Good work boys....

Good point. The importer should have filled it with illegals and driven it across the border. No one would have noticed.

They're hitting them with things they never used to either.

For example, a 25yr old Defender was not available from the factory with a 200tdi engine. If the truck being imported has a 200tdi engine installed, it will not be allowed into the USA.

The whole crushing thing is extremely rare from what I understand. Typically, the buyer has the option to ship the truck elsewhere.

Technically, even just bringing in a 200tdi engine is illegal (same would go for Toyota engines newer than 25yrs and not emissions certified in the USA).

Well, while I can't feel too sorry for the importer trying to do something illegal, I can say that...I am overjoyed to hear that our borders are secure, the importation of drugs and other dangerous items have been curtailed, and illegals and terrorists have been stopped in their tracks:cheers:

With all that in place, I don't see a problem with them destroying an illegally imported vehicle.

There's no wonder why I don't give a s*** about federal furloughs!

They could have taken it out with a drone and given all those other government agents a paid day off. :)

Hi, The cartels are running wild and seem to be growing and the government wasted time and resources for this ! I guess the only thing they can stop at the borders are old cars. 2 cents Mike

..... Or provide cheap manual labor.

But they may produce the need for said labor when the need arises to push it over to the shoulder when you finally let all the factory smoke out of the wiring harness:meh:

Really? A highly dramatized video to demonstrate the dangers of illegal "vehicle immigration" showing great skill by the crane operator popping each wheel of the vehicle"?

Very impressive . . . right.

i feel much safer now, knowing these schmucks are on the job "protecting" us from illegally imported vehicles.

I guess I understand why they destroyed it. I dunno seems a little extreme. If it wouldn't have been registered to be on the road would that have mattered? That crane operator sucked

Only sensible thing to do with a LR. They did the world a favour.
