April 28 - May 2, 2010

Just a quick FYI... Registration is opening on the 2nd of January and registration normally fills fairly quickly.

More information can be found here.... Cruise Moab - Toyota 4x4 event in Moab, UT

I am most likely going to be leaving around the 21st and returning the 5th

So I'm 99% sure I'm going this year.

Drew: what were your favourite runs from the years you've gone? Which trails are you signing up for this year?

Hoping for some recommendations from those that have been. Top consideration goes to trails as scenic as possible (as opposed to the wheeling). We want a mix of cool rock/landscape, and some ruins and petroglyphs as well. I am looking at doing trails rated 4-5 or so on the new trail rating system. Maybe a 6 at most but keeping in mind it is almost 2000km from home.

So far I'm leaning towards elephant hill, maybe fins and things, maybe poison spider mesa, maybe Kane Cr. We even considered the San Rafael overnighter.

Anyways, time to search the photo threads...

Year 1
- Gold Bar Rim
- Kane Cr.
- Hells Revenge
Year 2
- Beef basin & Elephant hill (Pre Moab)
- Cliff Hanger
- Fins and Things
Poison Spider Mesa
Year 3
- Golden Spike
- Hells Revenge
- Whipout Hill

What truck are you taking? We normaly do lots of that type of wheeling pre moab.

I think Fins and Things is the only trail I would not be interested in running again... to me its a smaller version of Hells Revenge and with the exception of the optional parts like Hells Gate.

I have my selections on a spreedsheet on my home laptop and will post up what I'm thinking of doing.... my first year I started with the easier trails and worked my way up to the harder ones but now I start with the hard ones and finish with the easier ones.

Thanks guys.

I looked over your photo links Drew which was really helpful (you have locations as sub-folders).

Since it'll be two of us and our dog for ~10 days it looks like we'll take the BJ60. It's about 4" lift, 33's, and may have a rear locker and winch by the spring.

When is it decided where the pre-run trips will go? That might influence trail selection. This will be my first time wheeling that kind of terrain so I'm thinking easier to start (maybe as a pre-run) to medium. I'll save the harder trails for another year I think.

I'm glad registration is delayed to the 15th it gives me some time to plan the trip.

OK I think this will be my trail selection:
Thursday Golden Spike or Moab Rim or Behind the Rocks
Friday Steel Bender or Metal Masher or Rose Garden Hill
Saturday Rose Garden Hill or Tip Toe Behind The Rocks or Steel Bender

As for our pre-run we normally start on the Saturday before. Hotel Rock and Lockheart basin are most likely on the list along with what other trails that have ruins or petroglyphs in the Mexican Hat, Blanding, Monticello area.

I know I would like to do the Hole in the Rock 4WD Trail but it will not be on the list with most of the Copper State guys since it has an overnight camp requirement.

I am thinking about this -- long hours on the Interstate

OK, Registration should be open to everyone tomorrow..

I'm registered for the following

Thursday 1st: Rating: 7 Golden Spike - 19 Spots Left
Thursday 2nd: Rating: 7 Behind the Rocks - 20 Spots Left

Friday 1st: Rating: 6 Metal Masher - 16 Spots Left
Friday 2nd: Rating: 7 Moab Rim - 19 Spots Left

Saturday 1st: Rating: 5 Tip Toe Behind the Rocks - 17 Spots Left
Saturday 2nd: Rating: 5 Wipe Out Hill - 16 Spots Left

If you have problems let me know and I will give you the direct link to the registration page.

Drew Do you do two trails in one day or are those your 1st and 2nd pick and they slot you in?

You get first, second and third picks for each day... the earlier you book the more likely it is that you will get your first choice and they do a good job of making additional changes onsite.

I have signed up.
