So we are looking to begin importing the Eaton / Harrop Electric Lockers from Ironman for Land Cruisers but would like a little feedback to gauge interest in the product.

The cost will be $1599 per locker (if we get enough interest) which includes the Locker itself as well as a Wiring Harness and required switches and relays to install the locker. Install into the carrier is the same as any other full case locker.

We should be able to get any lockers in their product line however they are all still in Australia at this point. Ironman has them in stock in Melbourne and ready for their next container if we get enough interest.

Below is an excerpt from Ironman's Product Manager:

The Ironman Diff Locker is manufactured in Australia in conjunction with Eaton Corporation and Harrop Engineering is a new age electromagnetic design which is maintenance free. covers the range of Toyota Landcruiser and Hilux and Nissan Patrols.

Ironman diff lockers are

· . 4 pinion design
· Push button operation ( no air system or plumbing required )
· Maintenance free
· Driver controlled to provide full axle locking
· Assembly kit includes all wiring
· Fully Serviceable

The initial range of Ironman Diff Lockers covers the range of Toyota Landcruiser, Hilux and Nissan Patrol. It has been engineered to capture 100 per cent of available torque sending it equally to both ends of the axle.
When the Locker switch is activated, electric current is supplied to a powerful electromagnet. As the electromagnet is energized, a torque is created on a drag-plate that activates a ramping mechanism. The ramping mechanism, in turn, translates rotational force into the axial motion of a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism engages into slots or tabs on the differential side gear and locks the side gear rotation to the differential housing. The result is on-demand traction and a fully locked differential.
The Ironman Locker is built with precision gears that are designed to mesh perfectly providing strength and durability over a standard gear cut.

Please fell free to ask any questions and we will do our best to answer them or we can pass the questions on as needed.

Thanks,

Bump for the morning crowd.

It looks like its not available for c-clip axles but we can get them for front and rear of 80s 100s 200s FJ Cruisers and 8" mini truck diffs.

I can't argue that it is expensive but by the time you buy an ARB and Compressor you aren't far behind.

It is easily worth $500 to me not to have to worry about air lines. Others will certainly argue this point, but to each his own.

Looks nice but the price seems a bit high.

Great option to have.
Aussie rear and e-locker in front. I would be interested.
How long has it been in production? Long term reliability?
Again price is a concern, but...

och ... I was hoping for a little less $$$.

More ore less same comments/questions as ronin.

I had the Eaton Elocker installed in my 96 Suburdan 2500 and loved it. The Sub was a heavy beast and it worked well especially the lock/unlock process. The wiring was very easy to do. I put about 30-35K miles on them before having to sell the Sub. If I didnt have lockers, I would seriously consider these.

HTH:cheers:

While expensive, it appears to have a few desirable features. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with these, I have no experience with the actual locker.

-ramping mechanism allows lock/unlock while stationary or moving. You shouldn't have to slip or move one wheel in relation to the other to cause lock (such as factory lockers with dog tooth gears)

-no motor driven actuator, essentially works like a relay. simple and should be reliable

-relatively easy install, looks like a hole needs to be drilled into the diff housing for wiring.

I've installed a factor locker into the rear of my truck, with control unit, switch, wiring, etc... I still have to do the front. While the price of this may be high, it may be cost efficient considering the time I'd spend sourcing and installing a factory locker + axle housing into the front of my truck.

Eaton has had the e-locker in production for more than 10 years in domestic trucks. So long term reliability isn't an issue. You also have an electromagnet in place of rubber o-rings in their competitor.

They should also be stronger than the ARBs because they are a 4 spider design, as well as having a thicker carrier housing. They have also been used in 1 ton Dana 60 applications so if they can hold up to diesel torque they will be fine with our little Toyota engines.

interesting. not having to worry about air lines, o-rings and air compressors is a plus. price looks unattractive though.

When not locked, is it open or LSD?

I'm pretty sure they are an LSD when not locked, I'm trying to find where I read that but I know that the Eaton E-locker used in the back of the Power Wagon is an LSD when not locked, but there is little correlation between the two.

I would be interested once I get done with a couple of other large purchases fro my LX450. In the next 6 month probably.

What kind of lead time are we talking about? Is it a month? I might buy through you guys instead of dealing with them directly. I just haven't had chance to call them in their convenient time yet.

I like the idea of not having to have an air compressor and air lines, but i was hoping it would be a little less expensive compared to an ARB.

I am interested to know from people that have bought and actually used their eaton electric locker, how long it takes to engage compared to factory 80 e -lockers. sometimes i am through an obstacle before the e-locker even engages... guess i didn't need em for that one, eh?

also looking at an ARB , Eaton or yota elocker for my mini truck axles under the zuk down the line.

Ironman has them in stock in Melbourne. So if you are willing to cover shipping for a single locker give us a call at the shop and we will figure something out.

We are trying to get a couple before GSMTR to test either way. We will keep everyone updated on that as well.
