Hey guys,
Pretty basic question, but what are the biggest tires that will fit on my stock '91 FJ80? Can I get by with 33"s? Looking for some more size without having to buy a lift or new wheels.

Are you asking the biggest tire that will physically fit on your wheels because if so, that would be any tire up to 12.50 section width. If you're asking what is the largest size tire that will fit on a stock 80 series with no lift that is a whole different question.

Yes, I'm asking what is the largest size tire that will fit on a stock 80 with no lift. Planning on lifting later but that's not in the budget just yet.

35's or 315's will fit stock, you'll just rub offroad especially if you still have flares.

315/75/16 with a 1/4" wheel spacer worked great till I put my lift on, now they work even better!

The biggest tire you can put on a stock vehicle without a lift is a 33 inch tire (if you intend to wheel it). I just started modifying my vehicle over the last year or so and I had all of the same questions. I considered staying stock and going with 33s but decided that I was already doing things in my cruiser that would warrent a move to 35 inch tires.

Everyone on here that is an experienced off roader will say that what you run on your vehicle should be driven by your style of off-roading.

If you don't off road at all and you just want to have big tires, you could run a 35 inch tire. If you off road without a lift it will run significantly.

I disagree that 33's are the max Texas Jack. You can run a 315/75 and wheel just fine. You could slap a 2" rear bumpstop extension on and stop most of the rub. Remove flares, and run some 1" spring spacers and it is a whole different story.

Folks are missing that he has a 91 I think. That means 15" factory wheels vice 16". I still run my 31x10.5.15s since they have alot of tread on them still and looked into this myself. A 33 is feasible but you may have a hard time getting a shop to mount a 12" wide tire on your factory wheels so you would have to look for 33x10.5 or even 33x9.5.

the equivilant in 15" to a 315-70-16 is 35x12.5x15 so anything smaller than that should work fine.

I agree but then you won't be stock. You'll have to do something to prevent the rub and that takes you away from stock.

I just put 33x12.50 duratracs on my 92 using the stock wheels and wasn't even asked about the wheel width being an issue. I actually think the stock wheels look really good with a nice 12.50 width. I also have no wheel rub and the offset ended up perfect. Right even with the fenders.

By "stock" these folks are asking about full suspension mods, mostly new springs, shocks, caster correction, etc. Not a few trim pieces, $6 rubber spring spacers, or $10 wheel spacers. It might not be technicly stock, but thats not the kind of "stock"=0 he's asking about.

edit: =0 was not intended, darn cat...

CAN WE GET A COMMON QUESTION STICKY/THREAD FOR THE TOP OF THE 8-'S FORUM MODS?

I see this sort of question every other day it seems.

Im not trying to knock the OP, hes asking because there isnt something obvious on the 80's section to use and posts a thread instead of using the FAQ.

I wonder if everyone who stumbles into mud knows what FAQ is or whats in there.

Just saying...

BTW, you should go with 35's mr. branhamr
