I have been asked several times whether I would consider building a limited amount of my swingout tire carriers that bolt up to the OEM bumper / cross member. I am now considering producing some for sale. I will decide in the next few days whether or not I will build a lot of 5 carriers, initially. Then decide where to go from there.

See build and finished threads:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/318750-bolt-tire-carrier-finished-now.html

-I do not intend to use 1/4" thick tubing - it is overbuilt and heavier than it needs to be, and since even a lot of sliders are built on 3/16", I would use this.

I have been asked to have at least one finished and shipped by the second week of October, and I need to decide quickly if it is worth my time and effort. Now, normally, I would say hell yeah, but my wife just had our third baby a week and a half ago. Time in the shop is time away from her / them and officially a burden. The only way to make it work is to make it financially advantageous - meaning will it allow me to finance Christmas for 3 kids and pay for day care...

These are the terms I am thinking of setting up:

-Tire carrier as outlined in build and finished threads, but I reserve the right to upgrade components where applicable. Finished product would include the hitch mount to the 4 factory holes, Lower mount that bolts to hitch and bumper, and upper swingout. Latch and gravity lock pin included, will send very basic license plate bracket as well. I plan to ship unpainted, as it would be prohibitive to powder coat and promise that there would be no scratches. Paint it what ever finish you like, or PC it. Final product will be test fitted on my undented truck.

-Price
-$400. Latch upgrade to larger 2000lb latch - $25, upgrade to spring loaded locking pin $15. I don't know how much work I will have to put in to reproduce, but I have a lot of development time in this.

-Will consider a version a non- hitch mount version that bolts to factory holes (no receiver hitch - keep your valley hitch) for same $375, if there is interest.

-Will Consider a Swingout only version - if need to mount a gas can carrier or other accessory. $300

-$75 for just the hitch mount - No tire carrier, but my bolt on receiver that you can bolt accessories onto later

-Terms: $50 deposit just to make sure you have skin in the game. Shipping not included in price. Paypal accepted, full payment due to ship. Guarantee: If it is not what I advertise, return it to me undamaged and I will refund your money in full.

-What I need you to do if you want one:
Post up on this thread.
PM me with your email and any questions you have.

If I get 5 favorable responses by the end of the week, I will commit to building them and having them available by early October.

Thanks for interest!!!
Moderators, if this thread belongs in a different spot, please feel free to move it.

I've been watching your various build threads with interest for some time. Looks like a great option. Count me in with the upgraded latch and spring-loaded locking pin. As requested I'll PM my e-mail info.

Thanks!

BT

Just PMd you. I am in as well and also want the upgraded latch and spring-loaded locking pin.

James

I'm in on one that retains my valley hitch. I still occasionally tow my boat and need that unforutnatley. pm sent

The $375 version would delete the receiver hitch option as an accessory, and would bolt the lower tube (via a plate) directly to the 4 factory mounting holes. You would tow with your factory or other rated towing hitch.

Keep in mind, My receiver is NOT DOT rated, and is intended for accessories only. I tow with mine, but buyer beware. Check my build thread and see my receiver hitch. If this is what you are wanting, it can be purchased stand alone without the carrier, but comes standard with the carrier as well.

ooh i understand the hitch my truck has is the factory toyota hitch.. i have yet to tow anything with it but i can only assume it could tow a 400lb motorcycle and a 200lb trailer? regardless, depending on shipping and funding i could be interested in the unit that bolts directly to the 4 holes in the bumper, that sounds like the best solution for me.

if you live in las vegas what would you think shipping could be? i am guessing a bunch?

Shipping from Vegas to mass? I honestly have no idea, but would be using UPS Ground. I don't have a weight calculation yet, as the 3/16 tubing will be slightly lighter than the 1/4". I believe my original weighs about 60lbs, but not entirely sure. UPS ground quote for 75 lbs from Las Vegas to Boston is roughly $85. Shipping steel is never cheap.

I now have 5 PM's of interest, which means I will be building these, it looks like! Tonight, I will email you all with deposit and contact information, confirm configurations and options. Thank you!!!!!

If you did not get in on the first 5, please PM me anyway, in case of drop out or if I am able to make more soon!!!

PMed. I'm interested but it appears I'm too late for round 1.

I want one!

I want the non- hitch mount version that bolts to factory holes (no receiver hitch - keep your valley hitch) for same $375 :D

Have you got any pictures of your updated "new build" model before I commit. !
I am sure it is just as cool as the original, but I am a visual person!

No pics yet on non hitch version, I have not made one yet, but there is time, the first lot is filled and spoken for. I will take pictures when I have them.
Imagine this, however: Lower bar (bolted to cross member) is extended and welded to a plate which is bolted to the 4 factory holes. In every other way, it would look and function the same.

Thanks for your interest!

By the way, all the PMs and the interest has urged me to get my Silver Star. Thanks MUD!!!

Flank, I'm in, add me on to your next round for the non- hitch mount version that bolts to factory holes (no receiver hitch - keep your valley hitch). Is there room to mount a hi-lift?

x2 on this!! I need my factory-installed Valley hitch to occasionally tow a jet ski. I also second for a Hi-Lift added-on mount, if that's in your attention.

Keep us posted please.
