when I had my fj60 I installed a sunpro mechanical temperature guage when the original became unreliable. I hooked it to a port in the thermostat housing on the 2f (i think it was something emissions related). What would be the best place to plug in a temp guage on a 22R? (1982)

I think this issue here is most of us have efi and are not familiar with the 22R. Since your existing gauge is getting replaced why not pull the sensor and replace it with the aftermarket?

thanks. that was sort of my question. where is the sensor located?

I believe it's next to the thermostat housing. Been awhile since I've owned a 22R.

I think on the 22r it's in between number 2-3 cylinders on the intake manifold.
On my 22re I had to have a guy tig weld a bung on my manifold.

can someone tell me if the thing pretty close to the center of this photo, on the t-stat housing, slightly to the left of the red wire is the temp sender?

Funny. I just installed one on my truck the other day. There are 2 temp sensors on the 20r. I just used the one that wasn't used for the factory gage. I think it went to the "emissions computer" which as we all know does absolutely nothing on a carb truck. I can snap a pic if you want.

yes. please. photo would be helpful.

Mine is an '80 long bed with the 20r. It's a pretty different truck so I'm sure the setup is different. The housing on mine has 2 sensors. The one you can see in the picture and there's another one below that (you can see the yellow wire in the pic) that is for the factory temp gage.

In the photo I posted you see a port coming off the tstat housing on the left side near the center of the photo. Do you know what that is for? Any reason I shouldn't stick the temp sensor in there?

On the driver side of the block toward the firewall there is a coolant drain port, its already tapped, i just put a home depot brass adapter from 3/8 to 1/4 NPT and threaded my aftermarket sending gauge right in. I could be wrong on the adapter sizes, but its easy to figure out.

thanks. i will check that out. sounds like a winner.

The aftermarket kit that I bought actually came with the adapters.
