While working on trying to get rid of a flat spot on acceleration, I decided it would be a good idea to adjust the accelerator linkage from the pedal to the torque rod. Well in the process, I managed to twist off one end of my linkage.

Since I need to have my rig drivable tomorrow morning to get a cage installed, I was off to the hardware store to see what I could rig up. I decided I still wanted some adjustably in this link.

After looking around I settled on some thick wall 5/16" aluminum tubing, an all thread 1/4-20 rod, some 1/4-20 nuts, and some JB-Quick.

The first step was to cut off the linkage heads. The upper head was the one that twisted off at the connecting nut. I then cut down the 5/16" tube to a length that would provide a good contact patch for the heads as well as a sufficient length to tap for the threaded rod.

Next up was JB Welding the heads into the tube. I applied JB Weld inside the tube with a wood BBQ skewer, slid the head part way in, applied JB weld to the just below the top of the head, then pushed it the rest of the way in.

Once I let JB Weld dry, I used a 1/4-20 tap to put threads inside the tubes. After cleaning out the threads with a chase, I then test inserted the threaded rod. Once both new heads were cleared, I cut down a section of the threaded rod, added two nuts to lock everything down, and assembled the linkage.

This should give me about 1" of adjustment in that part of the linkage.

Finally a photo of the finished linkage up close.

Not bad for quick fix with parts from the hardware store.

Mike, very nice fix -

But, should you later find yourself unhappy with it, I *think* I ended up with an extra one of those rods with a bunch of parts I bought from ebay - (still waiting on the box).:crybaby:

If you need it, lemme know. ... :)

btw, where are you getting the cage installed ?

Close enough for us to sneak a peek.

4xDoc.

Yep it's at 4xDoc for the cage install if you want to wander over and take a look. Worked the whole way there.
