 Thats to Tarek Barakat my good friend who found this undisturbed FJ and was curious so he took the photos. It turned out its a FJ43 with no soft top or doors. Could be Post 75 from the square bezels. But the Toyota script on the grill looks older.

Looks like a White 60's fintail Merc in the back

More details to follow after a visit to the car.

In this climate.....instead of simply being "covered in dust" ... such an abandonned cruiser would have mostly "turned into dust".

Can we sell you some water?

Sweet!

It's a 1/79 to 8/80

Nice find!

Bezel and steering wheel put it in that 79/80 model for me. Did you use something else? Always trying to see if there were other changes I missed.

No windshield washer nozzle in the top of the windshield:hhmm:

neat find

correct on bezel and steering wheel, 1/'79 was first build date for bezel and 8/'81 was the last build date for the this steering wheel.

Yes, the fuel tank went under the tub in 1/'79

As Shane pointed out the steering wheel changed design with the 81 model (at least in the US market) with a large center pad instead of the small round one. Very nice wheel I'm sure if your see one you will understand what I mean. You are correct that the raise floor started in 1/79 when the gas tank moved from under the passenger's seat to under the tub. The 75 and 79 model FJ40s both did not start their model year Jan. Making short model year while the model year before each of these was very long (74 + 78). The 81 model besides the steering wheel it also started the split transfer case and two piece steering shaft. I should have a print out of the changes over the years on the FJ40. Had it since the late eighties or early ninties. Haven't seen it in years but I should still have it. I'll scan it and try and post it on Mud, surprised it isn't a sticky already:cheers:

You can't see that in the picture......:p

Shall we go into springs, carbs, wheels, lic plate light wire cover inside rear door, handle above pass head, twist lock for glove box door, center dash panel, FM radio, pin switch for dome lights, spare time hinge designs, rear heater, center console, alt, voltage regulator, A/C, P/S, radiator, head light housings,Jump seat design, roll bar, choke assembly ...............

All that at 11:30

Some yes, some no and some I'm not sure. rear heater/ console (only models with rear heater), glove box door, springs, wheels all yes.

The pin switch on dome light was a 82 model change. That is if your talking about the H/O/A switch on the light and the two switches on the A pillar. More than one light? I sure know they could use more than one.

A/C and Power steering started with the 79 model.

Center panel in dash was a 83 model change.

Radiator changed in 79 (the reason there is no place to mount the pillow block bearing for the PTO. Did it cahnge again in 81?

Jump seat design changed to the folding leg in 78 stiil black. It seems the 79 seats I have are not padded as heavy as the 78 seats I have but not sure if they aren't just worn more but did switched to grey. I didn't realize they changed again.

77 and later spare tire carriers, I know have two different design hinges in my collection. But to be honest I have no idea of when they changed.

I have only seen a picture of the cover of the license plate light wire cover and again have no idea of when it started. But I would love to find one.

78 the seat belts moved to the roll bar at the bottom, 79 color changed from black to grey after I didn't know of any changes.

Carb, alt, voltage regulator and choke everything that happen once the 2F started I really haven't tried to research.

Head light buckets again I didn't realized they changed again after the 79 change.

I would love to see a picture of the handle above the passenger's head. I have never seen one. Was this a US market thing?

Not trying to get in a pissing match, just a honest quest for information:cheers:

I was stating from '79 on.

Radiator changed in 79 (the reason there is no place to mount the pillow block bearing for the PTO. Did it cahnge again in 81? For AC models the rad was wider, shroud, fan blade, also the battery tray was different and something else that escapes me.

Jump seat design changed to the folding leg in 78 stiil black. It seems the 79 seats I have are not padded as heavy as the 78 seats I have but not sure if they aren't just worn more but did switched to grey. I didn't realize they changed again. In 81 ish the rears had 2 footman loops on the front tube and the bottom cover was also different to accommodate the loops. I have never got answer why.

77 and later spare tire carriers, I know have two different design hinges in my collection. But to be honest I have no idea of when they changed. It was the upper hinge on the carrier side, looks way different.

I have only seen a picture of the cover of the license plate light wire cover and again have no idea of when it started. But I would love to find one. I believe 8/81

78 the seat belts moved to the roll bar at the bottom, 79 color changed from black to grey after I didn't know of any changes. 8/81 the side hoops are about 1" wider meaning the main hoop is wider. I found this by mistake setting up a jig.

Carb, alt, voltage regulator and choke everything that happen once the 2F started I really haven't tried to research. 1/79 to 8/80 is one style of carb. 83' choke was like the head light switch, big and lighted.

Head light buckets again I didn't realized they changed again after the 79 change. Completely different.

I would love to see a picture of the handle above the passenger's head. I have never seen one. Was this a US market thing? My '83 had one, it used the Phillips screws in that header to attach it.

never a pissing match, I am restoring this '66 which I am sure will be sweet, but there are things that I have never seen and learning a lot.

Build date mid-September 1979, Rustic Green, 3.70 diffs, split 50:50 rear ambo doors.
