1978 toyota land cruiser FJ40 OEM colors and codes (1 Viewer)

hey everybody-

i know there are tons of threads on this, but i think this is warranted...

just bought an FJ and made this chart for myself to visualize all colors in one spot and the same time, thought it could be useful for others.

thanks to Toyota Reference and TEQ's Uglina for being the model. His IS the quintessential version of this vehicle in this year.

the colors are right on if viewed in the .pdf

been sampling colors for the last 60 days from many trucks and averaged them out.

All are good but the beige, waaaaay off. You want dune beige for 78, color you have is closer to desert sand. Way too light.

from my research and the cars i have seen its on, and from reference i cannot find the darker dune beige in the color chart for 78, only from 72-77 (per toyota reference and toyota brochures from that year)

PS. also it's impossible for this chart to be viewed like i see it on my monitor, because every monitor out there is calibrated differently.

it has been very difficult for me to settle on a color...

yep, saw that one. That green wasn't an "official" color for 1978 although i have seen some that color in very early production 78 models.

i struggled with that one for a while... i always ended up wanted to make it darker.

poured over about 40 examples for this color including my own 78.

most of the examples appear darker, due to lighting conditions, but if viewed in high noon sun with slight overcast, this is very close.

that is a clean looking ride Nomis... i see what your saying...

i bought mine from PO in primer and your color is my original as what is under hood and in code. i want to stay true to the restore, but i am being swayed by myself to just go medium blue from 81 on as this is my favorite color overall.

You want 416 Dune Beige for the 78 and earlier color. My truck is a 12/78 '78 model and is 416 Dune Beige. Normally the model years go from sept to sept, but toyota went all the way to 12/78 using up all of the earlier tubs they had before the switch in '79. That is my favorite color, but my 11/77 '78 Mustard 40 is growing on me!!

The 033 you show above and in the pdf is way too white. I bought my 9/78 new and it was closer to the color you show for beige. Just saying.

Mine didn't get that white until the paint oxidized and started to power-off.
