So I thought my 1964 FST fj40 was tropical coral red...
Ordered some paint and did a test spray...
Either it is a bad mix, or I have the incorrect color...

The red i have seems like a deep coral, but the paint looks barbie pink.
Any Idea of what color red My cruiser really is?

ordered paint from these guys:
TCP Global - Quality & Service Since 1974

pics of the FST:

Any help and insight would be appreciated :D

the color looks like it shoudl be something like this:

But it is hard to tell on 45 year old paint ;)
( the above is fiesta red, which I was told is an approximation of tropical coral )

The original color looks more like Solar Red in the lower right corner. Was that an option for FJ40's?

Color Chip Selection

Looks to me to be a WELL faded red.

could be the solar red!

Anyone here ever paint that color?
I do not know if it was a fj40 color or not...

I would really like to repaint it the original color :)
Assuming i can figure that out.

Wow...that new pink paint is

You could either try and find another manufacturer to send you a sample of their Coral Red,
try buying a sample of Solar Red and see what it looks like once painted,
or take your other fender skirt in to be scanned, and get some paint mixed to match what you have on there right now.

haha i know

The painter, before he showed me the painted panel, asked me if i was painting the cruiser for my sister haha!

Then he showed me that painted panel :)

Yeah i might have to jsut ordered the solar red and see how it sprays.
Scanning might be the wisest option, but i do not know if they can tell from paint that old... I will have to ask.

I was hoping some one would have already gone through this here and know what color it is straight away :D

Wishful thinking ;)

No no no...they won't tell you what paint, or code it is...they will give you a new special recipe to get you the exact same red paint color as the part you get scanned...so be sure to use one of the cleanest, most untouched red parts you can find...like that other apron.

Ahhh!

That makes sense, sorry i can be at times dense. :)

I need to do some research tonight after work and find a place to do this.
You can then take the formula to any "brand" and have them mix it up yeah?

If you go to an automotive paint shop supplier to get it scanned, they usually mix it for you, but I guess once you have a recipe you can go anywhere.

I always wanted to try it myself, :hhmm: just heard about others who did it while working on older cars...and not wanting the new body work to show ;)

nice :)

Yeah the place painting it wants to make sure they use hi quality paint, he wants to get it from his source so he can guarantee the quality etc.

Now i need to find the cleanest / most protected bit of the paint to scan :)

That Pink is bad real ...bad...the fender piece under hood Looks like solar red then ...... What are you waiting for start tearing It down and Paint It then !

Picking Paint color it was the one hardest things I had to do got frustrated with It..... I just let the wife pick the color.....
