I have searched this topic and not found to much info, so here goes.
Like many people i'm on a budget, my 81 FJ40 has a "bad" 2F engine.

Rather than buy a new/ rebuilt 2F am i better off buying a used 2F or are there any benefits to the 3F engine? I have no problems with making new engine mounts etc (cheap fab stuff) if i end up with a better product.

If anyone has any thoughts or know's where i can get a good engine in the Denver CO area please let me know!

Thanks in advance

Send a PM to MMW68, and read his previous posts. He has a 3FE in his 40 and is still working out the kinks. There are others here with the same setup, but I can't recall their names. Search is your friend.

A 3FE will bolt in without new mounts. It's very possible if you are good with a wire diagram.

I have a 3FE in my FJ40, I like it, I had to get a few bugs worked out, but love the power, it's very fast behind a 4 or 5 speed. Like Pappy says - mating a 2F an 3FE wiring harness together is not a bid deal, just time consuming. Do a search, lot of threads on this topic.

Good luck! - mark

I haven't had time to work on it, and probably won't until after Thanksgiving. I need to get back to it.
